Every time I start and drive my new Maverick, I get a message on the screen about the computer collecting and updating data. Is this normal? Is it just updating the onboard computer with current driving data?

Ford is just giving the legally required warning that you're a willing contributor to one of their newest revenue streams, all those sweet, sweet usage metrics.

Take a look at the FordPass Privacy Policy, they gobble up a ton of information. Some examples: vehicle location, driving dynamics, maintenance status, the make/model/unique IDs of any mobile device you connect, etc.

Dunno if recent software fixes this, when I brought my EcoBoost home in the dead of winter the system would ping up so often it was killing my battery if the truck sat for a week or two. Resetting the vehicle and disabling and declining every data agreement fixed that at the cost of losing FordPass functionality and auto-updates.

You have to take truck in so dealer can update software. Almost all updating is what your truck has done and where it's done it. If you climb pikes peak pulling a trailer Ford knows at what speed, along with fluid temps etc. It's possible that using tire pressure, and temps, number of revolutions per mile when your tread is at the recommended replacement. It appears that if I pull in to my dealership and don't buy anything I will get an email from my bank pre approving me for up to $nn,nnn.nn auto loan. Most likely from Google tracking my phone but ???

Seems like another use of AI, at the expense of customer privacy! I can see where on new model vehicles, collecting data about the truck may help the engineering department fix an design mistakes they have made. However, the only data that should be taken is the mechanicals about the truck, not it's location , or other data that might border on being personal to the owner.
Lots to learn about this new digital culture.

One thing you can do in Android to reduce such ads is go to main Settings, search for the word Ads and delete the Advertising Device ID. It will remove your phone's device Advertising ID and replace it with all zeros. And turn off your Location permission in your banking app, as well as other apps you may have enabled it in. Search settings for "Location Permission." You'll see a list of apps you've allowed to track your Location, either on purpose or inadvertantly.

This is a recently publicized issue. Car gather gigs and gigs of data on us- where we go, what we listen to, things like that. Manufacturers may sell this data to data mining companies. Security Professioinals (like me) find this a huge source of concern. If enough of us complain maybe Ford will do something. Don't they make nough money off of us when we buy the vehicle?

Great advice! Thank you!
