LOL, mostly at myself. Didn't realize what the factory tailgate lock installed by the dealer was when I ordered my truck. And then the dealer 'forgot' to install it and left it in the glove box.

Why am I laughing at that $40 item, mostly at myself. Because in the original packaging from McGard, it has a US price of $14.99 (Canadian $19.99)

Nice markup from Ford!

That price includes installation by the dealer if on the original order.
Ok, so either way, I paid $40 and received $14.99 value, since it was on my original order.

No your looking at it wrong. How much do you think the dealership is charging Ford to install it? I think you might be surprised. Don't get me wrong I'm sure Ford paid a lot less than $14.99 per lock. They make a little on each option that's a given. Just not as much as your thinking of because you can not grasp or figure in labor cost. Most dealers around me charge $130 to $150 an hour, now do the math?

No you’re missing my point. The lock was left in the glove box, not installed.

I installed it myself AFTER I got the truck home. The dealer did ZIP.

So my math is correct. I paid $40 and received $14.99 of value.

Mostly I’d like to warn others it’s a waste of $$s to order it with a vehicle. Just buy one and self install.

That's your fault not Ford because you didn't demand the dealership to install the lock. Or take the time to see that it wasn't installed before taking delivery.

Ford would love to sell you a car and have you build it for nothing. For that matter they would love it if you did future repairs on it. Also any fast food restaurants would gladly sell you the burger, fry's, drink and have you make and get it yourself to reduce labor cost. It maybe why all these self serve lanes in grocery stores and fast food restaurants having soda or pop machines that you fill yourself.

You can look at it your way but no one made you install it. Technically you already paid to have it installed. After paying for labor that would be the last thing I would do IMO

Don't get me wrong it's probably 15/20 minute job. That's includes getting and putting up tools. It's more on principle,

Whatever, doesn’t change the math. Simple fact, simple math. Paid $40 received in turn $14.99.

Ford in the form of Ford or dealership pocketed $25.01

There aren’t any other mitigating facts.
