Hello everyone,

I found a nice OE FX4 Rim and Tire from a junkyard to replace the smaller spare that comes with our Mavericks. Do you think this will fit in its place? If anyone has any info on the Tire Pressure Monitoring System seeing a fifth tire issues or problems? I wanted a full OE spare so that when we go out on trails I don't have to lose the AWD capabilities in case of a flat.

Yes, it fits. The tire is 225/65R17. I run a 245/65R17 as a spare and it fits fine.

Since it's an FX4 wheel/tire, it will have a TPMS.

I think there is some debate about "fitting fine". The Maverick has some jagged metal "shark teeth" on the edge of the spare tire well that are supposedly there to puncture the spare in the event of a hard rear collision, thus reducing the chance of intrusion to the fuel tank. The larger wheels will sorta fit, but not within the OEM shark teeth. They end up having to rest on top of the teeth, thereby making them ineffective.

Choose your level of risk...

I would probably prefer to keep the spare FX4 wheel/tire in the bed if its only for when hitting the trails.

There is a very long thread on this issue. As I recall, if you have the tow package, a matching tire will not fit in the same spot the "donut/full-size" go in. If you don't have the tow package, then a larger tire may fit.

Folks are right...doesn't fit with the teeth. So yes, it is riskier than the smaller tires if you get rear ended. This is a 245/65R17 with no tow package.

Does anyone know the largest sized tire that will fit with the tow package but without cutting the shark teeth ?

I keep hearing about the tow package, but I'm not sure that makes a difference. The hitch takes up some room, but I think its the same with or without the 4k tow package.

There looks to be space between the tire and the hitch. I have a matching tire I need to get mounted.
