OBDII sends a lot of data at pretty high speeds. I'd expect errors with your data and perhaps, errors with your truck using cheap cables or splitters. Also, splitting 2 ways means you can draw 2 times the power. Not sure the milliamp rating of the port, but it's not large.

This is like the nervous system of your truck and you'd be tapping and splitting the spinal cord with a $10 item? Not something I would do.
LOL

There are high quality splitters in the $20 range with no degradation in signal....

OBD2 is rated at ~4-6 amps max (though I would not approach that) . A typical Thinkware dual camera's highest rating (when in record mode) is ~400MA.

it is always on, which is why if you're going to use something connected to it, I would use the Garmin dashcam plug. it has settings for 15 min, 12 hours or infinite. I have the one in my son's suv set to 12 hours for parking mode.

if the Thinkware OBD2 plug doesn't have that, don't use it unless you want to risk deep sleep and then actually killing your 12V battery. (because Deep Sleep cannot turn off the OBD2 accessory power.)
Exactly...... I use the Garmin power plug in 4 vehicles, switched to the '10 minute off' setting....

Love it.
I have it on a quick disconnect so I can take it indoors or hide it not to tempt thieves. Though when off looks just like a GPS nav unit. No one probably wants those any more. So maybe not as tempting after all.
How do you have it mounted? I see it comes with a windshield glass mount but was thinking I'd like to try to use the dash cubby to mount it there somehow.

Also, were you able to just scan for all the parameters you wanted to track? Is it essentially just plug and play?

I'm planning to pick it up for my ecoboost. I think it would be nice to track trans temp, IAT, boost, what gear the truck is in etc.

The suction cup can attach to glass, or the little side cubby, or the flat spot on top the cubby & tray behind the center screen. Then attach the unit with magnetic pad. The cord is a standard ethernet cord. I bought a 3 inch cord online for like $1.50. This 3 inch is always attached to my Scan Gauge. Then I bought a female/female ethernet "coupler". This always stays attached to the OBDII cable.

Now when I attach and detach daily, I only put wear & tear on a $1.50 cable and .99 coupler. I have no fear of damaging the pins or ports on the expensive unit or OBDII cable.

I drilled a hole the size of an ethernet jack into the tray behind the screen. The wire is mostly all in the dash. The hole is not visible from either seat.

Scan Gauge is almost plug n play.
There is initial set up that takes a few minutes. And there are occasional software updates over WiFi.
