I don’t know who gets to define the word “truck,” but where I come from, “pickup“ is just shorthand for pickup truck. They are one and the same.

What is the consensus cutoff between truck and not a truck? Sometimes I call our RAV4 a truck, mainly because SUV is more cumbersome, but it feels like a truck when I have to buy tires for it.

Yes it's smaller than full sized pickup trucks. It's a COMPACT truck FFS. That's why I bought it. It's actually larger than I expected. When I first saw one it was a shock because I expected it to be the size of the old toyota pickups from the 80's and early 90s. It's quite a bit larger than those.

What is the functional difference if it’s body on frame? I always thought the cab was separate from the bed due to the amount of flex from one end of the frame to the other. Or to make easier to change bed styles (flatbed, step side, etc.), but is there another for the split?

It seems to me we should either expand the definition of “truck” or create a new category for these “other trucks.”

Bloat is a thing and it's compact by comparison.

I don't see the relevance of that to someone not being smart enough to know they need a flag. You may have some valid points in your initial post, but cropping them out has nothing to do with someone's ignorance. By the way, I've never seen the photos you're referencing, Maybe that would help?
