This was posted today by US Customs and Border Protection today. The last stoppage only lasted for a few days, but deliveries may be impacted if your vehicle is not in the US yet.

Statement from CBP on Suspension of Rail Operations in Eagle Pass and El Paso, Texas

“CBP is continuing to surge all available resources to safely process migrants in response to increased levels of migrant encounters at the Southwest Border, fueled by smugglers peddling disinformation to prey on vulnerable individuals. After observing a recent resurgence of smuggling organizations moving migrants through Mexico via freight trains, CBP is taking additional actions to surge personnel and address this concerning development, including in partnership with Mexican authorities.

“Beginning December 18, 2023, at 8:00 AM local time, CBP’s Office of Field Operations will temporarily suspend operations at the international railway crossing bridges in Eagle Pass and El Paso, Texas in order to redirect personnel to assist the U.S. Border Patrol with taking migrants into custody. CBP will continue to prioritize our border security mission as necessary in response to this evolving situation.

“We continue to adjust our operational plans to maximize enforcement efforts against those noncitizens who do not use lawful pathways or processes such as CBP One™ and those without a legal basis to remain in the United States.

“Over the past several weeks, CBP has made a number of operational adjustments in order to maximize our ability to respond, process, and enforce consequences. In Eagle Pass, vehicular processing remains suspended at Eagle Pass International Bridge 1. In San Diego, California, San Ysidro’s Pedestrian West operations remain suspended. In Lukeville, Arizona, the Lukeville Port of Entry remains closed. Members of the traveling public can check operational status, including Port of Entry wait times here [bwt.cbp.gov].”

I was under the assumption that Ford used the Nogales boarder not Texas. Is Nogales an issue ?

The Maverick does not enter at any of those ports.

They travel from Hermisillo on Ferrocarril Mexicano S.a. De C.v. ( Ferromex ) to Nogales, AZ. Then they are on Union Pacific rails and spider out from there.

Yeah it makes sense logistically that they use Nogales for anything headed to United States. Thanks for sharing, got the email my truck shipped last night... We shall see if this effects my delivery wait time. No big deal either way.

Cool thanks. I'm curious about the route my truck will take when it's shipped. I'm in Calgary, Alberta Canada. I wonder if it'll be rail up to Spokane, then trucked into Alberta. Or rail to Vancouver, then CPKC Rail from Vancouver to Calgary and only trucked the last few miles to dealership.

Let us know. Calgary is sort of a no-mans land when you look at that BNSF automotive rail map. Going to need to come in from the west at an angle from Vancouver BC or Spokane, WA or somewhere east of Montana at the opposite angle I assume.

Or.....maybe Sweet Grass Montana/Coutts at the Canadian border and then relatively north to you?

Come to think of it, maybe via Kansas city now that CP Rail and Kansas City Southern have merged so Kansas City is in the CPKC network now too. Not sure if they have agreements with BNSF for this sort or stuff? If they do that means it could very well be on rail all the way to Calgary as Calgary is CPKC Headquarters and they have a large railyard here.

I'm not sure how all that works with rail though, I'm an airline guy haha.

From what I have seen, all the railroads just share track and it doesn't really matter who owns what. It is interesting to see who owns what, but it doesn't seem to influence the path taken that much. Kansas City is a major hub though, so would make sense.
