I just joined this forum. I ordered my Maverick XL mid-January and received it about 2 weeks ago. The dealer was shocked how fast it came because they have a backlog of orders from September/October that haven't arrived yet. His theory is that the XL has fewer chips due to having fewer features so that sped the production along.

It took me a long time to reach the decision to go with a Maverick. I've only ever owned Civics and Corollas, and I have been tired of making dump runs in the trunk and putting the seats down to haul building materials. It's amazing what you can fit in a sedan, but it's such a pain in the neck to drive with stuff sticking out the trunk or passenger side window and then having to vacuum the whole car after. I've had enough of that.

I really love the looks of GMC Canyons and Chevy Colorados. I also realized that I'm not comfortable with the size of full-size trucks. When I test-drove them I couldn't even park them. Having always driven little sedans, the Silverado made me feel like I took up the whole road. When I realized that the mid-size trucks cost almost as much and got pretty much the same MPG as the full-size trucks I got paralysis by analysis by comparing cost vs practicality vs resale value vs fuel economy. Then the Maverick came along. I accepted the fact that I don't haul boat trailers or go off-roading so why pay twice as much for a truck that does those things?

I'm sure I made the right choice. Now I can pick up Craigslist purchases or stuff from Home Depot or whatever I struggled to do before, plus the roof is low enough that I can load my paddleboard on top, and I'm getting 31 mpg on backroads. I haven't been on the interstate yet, but I bet it will get great mileage at higher speeds.

My one regret is that I didn't order the factory spray-in bedliner. I was trying to save money, but now I can't bring myself to do anything that will scratch up the paint in the bed. I'm considering a modular, plastic bedliner. Is that a smart move, or does anyone have a better idea?

I'll post a picture soon. Then you'll be able to see what a Maverick looks like with a roof rack and a paddleboard on top.

Thanks for letting me join the group.

I think coming from Corollas and Civics the Maverick is probably a comfortable choice for you. The only pickups I've ever had in my life were 3 S-10's many moons ago and I don't feel like driving the Queen Mary so the Maverick was a the perfect choice for me as well.
Why don't you go and have a aftermarket spray-in bedliner? I'm sure there must be a Line-X dealer or equivalent around you, many dealers also do the spray-in as well. I have a FE coming which already comes with the spray-in.

Hey Jamie, welcome to the forum! Fellow lifetime sedan driver here in your exact same shoes. I've only had my Maverick going on a week now but it does sure feel great buying something so (in?)expensive and not having any real regrets.

I would personally recommend getting a spray-in bedliner installed still at some point down the road. If you do, you don't need to focus too much on scratches in the bed as they will eventually get covered up.

I don't actually know of any drop-in liners available aftermarket at the moment. You can pick up a bed mat in the $150-250 range but I'd personally fork out the $500+ for a spray-in.

Ford makes a drop-in bedliner, I had drop-in liners on my S-10's and the one thing you don't want to do is ever remove them because they will scrape the heck out of your bed.

Welcome to the forum and congratulations! You could always check into putting a rubber horse stall mat in the bed for protection now. Or if you decide to get the spray in liner, don’t worry about the scratches because they will sand it anyway to get the liner to adhere.

I got my modular bed liner this week. Fits really well. I've got the swing tool boxes and they were a pain to fit around but now it's all done it looks pretty good. As bed liners go it's probably the closest fitting one I've had in any truck. Really hugs the lines of the bed and don't reduce it by much. Dealer was open to a deal on the price too.

The spray in bed liner was the only factory option I added to my purchase. Having had a truck without that bed liner, I saw what even light duty did to the bed. There was no way I was going to do that to a new truck.

It was one of the constraints, which meant I had to wait eight months for my truck to arrive (almost to the day, incidentally). I'm still glad I got it.

That looks really good. The nice thing about the drop-in liner is I can use the points I got when I bought the truck to take $200 off. I think I might do that option. Thanks
