Hi all, my first post here. Picked up a new 24 XLT hybrid about a week ago. Drove it from Tampa to Key West. 36 mpg on the interstate (about 300 miles), about 50 mpg once on the overseas hwy / US 1 ( about 100 miles)!

Bought this for a dinghy. Today pulling front end off (yikes) to install the Demco base plate and auxiliary braking system. Great info on this site from others that have pioneered this for the rest of us... But still can't believe I have a new vehicle that I'm partially disassembling!

Great experience with this "little guy" so far. Hope it stay that way!

I assume you run with the A/C on?
I’ve had “Pops” for 800 miles. Just hit 42mpg for the first time.

Good luck! Yes, it can be scary in the beginning, but once it's all buttoned up and you have a few trips under your belt, you'll wonder why you worried!! The Mav is a dream toad!

Thanks to all! I finished up the baseplate today. The Demco directions and video were quite helpful as well as all the posts here and on irv2. One thing that was pretty bogus though was on the Demco video. It shows the "wrap" of the safety cable around the base of the baseplate bar. The way they depict it, if the plate does break free the cables (in Demco's rendering) may simply slip off the base. Better instructions (IMHO) would be the install the cable prior to final install and tightening of the baseplate as you can better get the cables where they belong for true integrity. Waiting until after (on a 2024) does not afford room to get the cable around the baseplate bar itself. You can only wrap the "supports" of the bar that connect to the right and left side of the Mav frame and baseplate mounts.

As further reinforcement I added a third bolt (through hole with washers, lock washers, nuts and Loctite). I realize this is probably the most anal case of overkill ever, but after taking that front end off, and having visions of being stuck roadside with a separating baseplate it was worth it!

Lastly, the 30 ft. lbs. on the lower two bolts never tripped my torque wrench / ratchet. I didn't want to keep wrenching on them for fear of compromising their integrity or outright stripping them.

Sure did. I was pretty amazed it "clocked" 50 mag nearing KW....

Ha,ha! They do seem to be a rarity down here. Kinda funny in that the roads are on the smallish side but duallies and big pick ups are everywhere.
