Guess I should do an intro.

Old b*stard with new Maverick. Former Ford racer and salesman. 53 years as a trucker. ASE certified in the 90's after I got certified on a bet with my dealers service mangler.

Built hot rod chassis, bought and sold early Ford flathead and Chrysler Hemi engines for years. Last hot rod was a chopped '56 F100 with a blown Chrysler Hemi, 4 speed, Mopar rear and B body front torsion bar suspension.

I have a '65 Dodge Coronet project in the works.

Bought a new '24 XL Maverick with AWD, 4k towing and Ford Co-Pilot...whatever that is.

I hate most technology.

Cactus gray.

Replacing a 271,000 mile '04 Buick LeSabre that we owned for 9 trouble free years.

I live in central Wisconsin and the rust worm has started to eat my car...not bad but...

My wife casually asked if we could go out and look at new cars last week.

We intended, at first, to buy an economy roller skate. But after driving a Mitsubishi with 78hp and a CVT Trans I decided I didn't want to drive that small of a car as a daily driver.

I have owned several vintage Triumph TR-3's over the years so I know small cars but this Mitsubishi just didn't do it for me.

So my bride will drive the Maverick and I will get my '99 Grand Cherokee back on the road. Fresh engine that I rebuilt in my shop years ago but parked for the last three years due to a bad crank sensor...just didn't want to deal with it.

My '88 F350 crewcab dually will still be my dedicated tow vehicle.

I pick up the Maverick next Saturday provided I can beg for enough down stroke $$$ at a busy intersection on the main drag here in town.

My sign will say "Owe alimony to four ex wives...please help".

May the beatings begin...

Well...

Seems like the Maverick I "bought" won't be mine.
I signed a purchase agreement contingent on my dealer getting the truck via dealer trade.

Didn't happen...yet. They haven't been able to make an equitable trade with another dealer.

I was assured that doing a dealer trade would not be an issue...they have plenty of XLT's on the lot to trade for a lowly XL.

My sales guy offered me the same price as an XL on an XLT they have in stock but it's not AWD.

Meanwhile the other dealer I contacted has a '25 on order with about the same options...AWD, 4K towing package not much else.

He also has a '24 XLT AWD...too much for the budget.

I've also been shopping for insurance. My agent retired early and sold her agency. The new people are "OK" but I really liked being like a friend to the owner... plus she was very EZ on the eyes.

Insurance prices on the Maverick are about the same between the three companies I contacted.

My present company is based here in WI.

My present 100/300/100 liability policy without collision but with $1000 deductible on comp is $601/6 months right now on my '04 LeSabre and '99 Grand Cherokee. $5k medical.

Their new policy would be 300/500/100 liability with $500 deductible on both collision and comp. $25k on medical payments. About $760/6 months. Covers full coverage on the Maverick and liability only on the Buick.

Not too bad...I know you folks in NY, Jersey and CA are laughing at these rates!

I am increasing a couple small things on my policy, too... breakdown/towing etc.

Considering my insurance on a new '68 Dodge Charger R/T would have been $1100/3 months 50 years ago this is a bargain!

Film at 11...
