Had the dealer order this dashcam from Ford Accessories. It says it fits the Maverick. The truck spent the day at the service dept, and after several hours, the dealer called to say that they cannot figure out how to install this unit in our Maverick. They claim the wiring harness provided is too short to allow for any possible positioning of the rearview camera. SO, does anyone have any experience ordering a dashcam from Ford Accessories, if so which one, and was there any problem installing it?

I bought this dashcam from Best Buy and had them install it. No problem. Then, when I traded my 22 for a 23, the dealer removed it from my 22, but told me to take it back to Best Buy and the dealer would pick up the cost. The only thing was, at the time, the only OBD wiring harness was not compatible with hybrids or electrics, and Best Buy would not hardwire it. They suggested a local business, which instead of about $80 was going to be closer to $400. I contacted the dealer, they told me they said they would pay, and they did. I don't know why they didn't want to do it themselves and save $400, but I think I was better for it, as this place does custom installs. I don't know why your dealer has a problem And yes, mine has the rear camera as well. Whatever, it's installed and I like the camera. For the price point, I think it's pretty good and have no problem recommending it.

I agree with Ponchsox: I've installed several dash cams myself over the years, and if I can do it, ANYONE can. I would avoid one that connects via the OBD, as not all of them work with the hybrid. Mine plugs into the 12v outlet at the back of the console (minumum 11-foot cable length), and it was pretty easy to hide the cable from there.

I'm assuming the OBDII connection should work on a camera recommended by, purchased from and installed by Ford. I generally like buying add-on equipment directly from the dealer because I know that while I may pay a little more, it will fall under the overall vehicle warranty if there's a problem rather than having to deal with BestBuy. As it turns out, I really didn't want the camera the dealer initially ordered and couldn't figure out how to install, because I don't really want the rear camera. I just wanted the unit that has cameras facing both forward and rearward, not a completely second camera on the back of the vehicle.

I am going with a used FITCAMX on Amazon (FitCamX Brand Store) as I have had good luck with them before and it does HD with a 256 GB card. My dealer would not install a third party camera purchased by me so I am looking for a shop. Installed two others by myself, first one two hours, second one hour (learn by doing). Local Best Buy would install it BUT not guarantee whether it would work and any further labor would be at their hourly rate.
