I am in an almost exactly same position as "LastDog" with my Lariat Lux. Built July 5th, on chip hold yada yada until late September, shipped to Dealer and then delivery was blocked by FOMOCO due to airbag nonsense. We are told the 1st quarter 2023 for parts even as they build and delver Mavs ever since July 10th! NHTSA at fault? FOMOCO? Why do new cars have compliant airbags but those of us with undelivered new cars cannot even access those same parts sources for our almost delivered cars. INFURIATING!

FoMoCo Recall 22C20.jpg
dhvgbi: I appreciated you post. Is your dealer optimistic that the recall parts can arrive and your truck delivered before the end of 2022. It is a particularly galling to think that 2023 models will be delivered before our 2022s -- after our trucks have been held on (Mexican and USA lots awaiting parts for over 5 months during our very long wait (maybe 19 months before delivery).

Just got home from the dealer without my truck - got to drive it around their parking lot but FoMoCo won’t let them sell it to me until the airbag is fixed, and there is no ETA on the part being available. Looks like I get an extra special level of torture for this, as I’ll get to visit my truck in their lot for another few months.
Just got off the phone with my dealer. He confirms that he will not be able to sell the truck once it arrives there. He did agree that I can drive it to my heart's content on their lot!! He also told me a tale of woe about his new Mustang. He can't drive it in the rain as there is a wiper problem and they can get the parts -- so he only drives it on sunny days after watching the weather report. He also said our truck's warranty will not actually start till we take possession. He thinks Ford will want to resolve the airbag fixes for trucks on dealer lots before year's end so their sales numbers will reflect before then.
@Ford Motor Company - These June 2021 orders have too long already. Is there no way to expedite the repair parts for vehicles in this situation?

Clive: Thanks for the posting. I see your 10/21/2021 order now has a build date of 12/19. I suppose that means your order is being converted to 2023 order. Hope it will be an early 2023 build!

larryhokie: Thanks for the info. I guess your truck did not get caught in the time warp that others like Wolfe Jet, dhvgb1, and I have found our truck orders. build-then hold because of chip shortage-then install the chips and ship knowing there is an outstanding recall that will further delay delivery.
Yeah, I got lucky. For the last month I was preparing myself mentally for the possibility of a new recall that would get mine stuck as well. Fortunately, this did not happen and there were zero dealership shenanigans.

I’ve seen other threads about this issue in the Recalls part of the forum, and we are far from alone in getting the short end of the stick. Ford’s stick only seems to have short ends.

The part that is really making me insane is that our trucks sat in Mexico for 2+ months waiting for the chips, when the plant had the airbags, and chose to not fix it then and ship them as-is. That is the most egregious part to me.

I’m going to go by the dealer every couple of weeks and ask to drive mine around the lot for a while, as it can’t be good for the truck to just sit undriven, one has to think the hybrid battery needs to refresh every so often, or we’ll wind up with an additional problem once the airbags get fixed.
Wolfe Jet: I was told this morning that our Maverick is now at our dealer's. He again reminded me that he cannot yet sell it due to the recall. I see no hurry to see it in the rain; will wait till the sun shines since I can't inspect it in the rain. Are you visiting your truck ofter to keep the battery charge?

@LastDog glad yours is closer to home. I have driven by mine a few times, as the dealer is 3 miles away, I freaked out the first time it wasn’t in the same spot, but then saw they’d moved it to put the lisc plate frame on the front bumper. I didn’t like seeing someone had wiped the dirt off the back window to look at my window sticker (hands off my Mav!) and I come home more bummed than feel good about seeing it there. I was feeling worried they could sell it out from under me, but since Big Ford is blocking it, I have backed off that ledge. I want to put a “Don’t even THINK about it!” sign on the dash, lol, for all the lookey-loos…

Haven’t driven it again since the first day. Someone here had pointed out that the normal 12v battery needs to run more often than the hybrid, so my driving around their lot won’t help that, since it doesn’t start the engine going so slow, and I’ll have the 12v tested when taking delivery to make sure it hadn’t run down during this time.

I reached out to the Ford social media team that monitors this forum to try and see if there’s anything they can do to try and expedite getting the airbag parts, but there wasn’t. On the recall thread someone mentioned that our trucks should get priority over folks already on the road since the dealer wants to make the sale, but I don’t have high hopes I’ll take delivery before February…. Just sucks so much…

Since they already had good airbags at Hermosillo when they were shipping our trucks, I really wished they’d just thrown 2 in the back seat before putting it on the train so it could get fixed upon arrival but that would be too smart an idea and far too much to ask out of this process.

Wolfe Jet: I went today to see our truck. Like you, I left a bit discouraged that it might very well sit there for well over two months awaiting parts to resolve the airbag recall. In the end, the dealer suggested that he prepare a Virginia Buyers Order reflecting my military discount that is set to expire 1/3/2023 and I sign the document. He says that signed document serves two purposes: (1) it locks in my discount [the Order shows the sale price, and values for taxes, dealer's charges, my discount and my bottom line cost] and (2) based on the dealer's experience with historical Ford recalls, the document will show Ford that they have a ready and willing buyer and may cause them to give a higher priority to delivering the recall parts to create a quicker sale. I signed, as we want to move our truck off the dealer's lot sooner than later.

Wolfe Jet: FYI. I got a call from my dealer's General Manager this morning. She told me she was aware of our situation and that she has another Maverick in transit that is subject to the airbag recall and can't be sold. She says she is trying to pressure Ford hierarchy to get the recall parts to them asap. Apparently, Ford Motor Company advised them on 9/22/2022 that if they sold Mavericks without resolving the recall, they could be subject to a $21,000 civil penalty per vehicle. They do not want that lost profit. Iincidently, a call yesterday to Ford Customer Relations Airbag Recall office [800-392-3673] told me that the recall is a compliance recall and there is no reason why our truck cannot be sold now. Our dealer GM says they are going to call Customer Relations Airbag folks to resolve the misinformation issue. It is a sad situation when Ford call number folks don't have updated information -- and has failed to timely inform customers.

I copied this when I was at the dealer which is probably what yours was looking at as well.

All pretty clear cut, just have to hope that we’re ahead of the crowd when the parts come available… and continue suffering in the meantime.

Wolfe Jet: Thanks for your attachment; it seems to be what the dealer GM was quoting. I'll let you know when I hear more details from my dealership.

I told my dealer to put my Lariat in the showroom "for marketing" reasons, as they have a shortage of new vehicles to show. And they did! My Mav is now out of the weather until.... They keep the doors locked and a prominent SOLD sign under t he wiper blade. They will keep it dusted and wiped down in there, too. So long as we have to wait for this unscrupulous screw up to clear, we might as well make the most of it

That is a fantastic idea, I’m going to try that too - they don’t have a lot of room inside, and I think there’s a pretty Mustang there now, so I doubt it, but couldn’t hurt to ask…

dhvgb1: I agree with Wolfe Jet that this is an fanrtastic out-of-the box idea!!! As it is after business hours at my dealer now, I emailed the idea to my dealer's General Manager and sales staff. I'll let you know when they respond.

Wolfe Jet, dhvgb1: The idea suggested by dhvgb1, which I emailed to my dealer, has resulted in their agreement to store our truck in their special vehicle storage building to protect it from the weather as well as possible scratches and fouching if in the showroom. They also agreed to install at no charge the bed tray and tailgate liner that has been waiting in their Parts Department for months.

Wolfe Jet: Received this email from Ford; did you get a similar one? Needless to say, I can't buy the truck sitting in my dealer's building because of the airbag recall and no one at Ford CRC, Ford chat, or my dealer can tell me when it can be sold!! SO THE MESSAGE IS RUBBING SALT IN A SENSITIVE WOUND!!
