Wouldn't removing the grill shutter's just add more air to the fire?

Yup, the only real work that needed to be done was cutting holes in the plastic under tray to prevent fluids from building up on the tray.

Reality is this is mitigation, not a fix. Removing the grill shutters will mean that those of us in colder winter regions will have reduced fuel economy during winter months.
