Just for some self-inflicted torture, I decided to call my sales guy to see if he had a build date, VIN, any good news about my base hybrid XL order from October Very nice about it as usual, but nothing. This is not a huge place like Long McArthur, Chapman, etc. but not a small one either. He told me they do not have one single new vehicle on their lot. I told him I was concerned about my 2012 Chevy Colorado losing trade in value with each passing month. He said not to be concerned because used truck values are Sky high still due to new vehicle shortages. He also said he wouldn’t be surprised if not just 2022, but 2023 Lightnings were sold out before they even receive one. Crazy times. I can’t imagine owning a dealership and not having any new vehicles to sell.

Yeah it’s pretty crazy. My brother works at a local Chevy dealer and his wife does internet sales for a automotive group that sells a few different brands ie; Jeep,Ram,Gmc,Buick and Cadillac and they are all struggling to get new vehicles. Most are already sold when they arrive. To make it worse at one of their dealerships they had a hail storm come thru right after 12 new vehicles got delivered. She had two sold waiting to be prepped.

Think about the impact on employment this supply chain disruption is having. Salespeople not earning a living (some may cheer at that), finance people not needed. Prep people not needed. Delivery trucks not needed. And so ........and so on.........and so on.......(Think shampoo commercials for those over 45.) I am sure I didn't mention but a fraction of those negatively impacted.

Let's hope not just for consumers but for those really impacted that this mess gets cleaned up quickly.

What dealers are lacking in supply they are making up for in prices though. Look at the # of Mavs sold w $10-20k added prices, clearly an example of why inflation is sooo high, there is an excess of cash flow (traditional reason for inflation) in the system right now.

My dealer is a small twin dealer (Don Franklin Ford in Columbia, KY.

They are showing 35-45 in stock at different times. So, they have a number of new vehicles, just not MAVs.

Don't just look at their websites. Those are bogus. Filled with vehicles they have ordered for others and vehicles they no longer have. Go look at the lot. Very few new vehicles.

I was there yesterday. They had quite a few. I didn’t count them.

When I went to pick up my new RAV4 last month (which I reserved and waited 2 months for) I saw basically the same thing. The dealer I purchased from had several truckloads arrive the day before (my RAV4 being on one of them). They had no new vehicles in stock when the trucks arrived and all the vehicles on the trucks were pre-sold except for two Camrys and one SUV (it wasn't a RAV4, I think it was a Highlander). My saleswoman pointed them out to me while we were going over the RAV 4. They we all parked together across the lot and she said she expected all three to be sold before the end of the day (this was about 11am on a Saturday).

Luckily (?) for me my wife has "stolen" the RAV4 from me and consented to sell her car so I can still get a Maverick if one of my orders is ever built. I have officially been waiting 4 months for the oldest of my Maverick orders and I don't yet have a build date. I guess the salesman's estimate of 3 months from my order to delivery might have been a little off...;)

Yes, dealerships have very few, if any, new vehicles on their lot..but my local Chevy Sales guy says the dealership is making good money as no sales below MSRP and many have adjusted pricing. So sales guys are doing ok also..Immediate turnover in inventory is a good thing for the dealerships..no flooring expense.

Things are a little better for my local dealer, but a few months ago 80% of the new vehicles on their website were commercial truck cab/chassis. The remainder were a few EcoSports and a solitary Mustang.

Most Ford dealers do seem to have at least one EcoSport. I wonder why? ;)

A local dealer has pretty much nothing new aside from the dozen or so EcoSports lined up front. Nobody wants those POS.

Another local Ford dealer ended up ceasing operations altogether and all their assets and remaining stock have been split-up amongst three other nearby Ford dealers.
