Alas, it is with great sorrow I report that while my wife was en-route for some errands, she was struck and my beautiful 2023 Atlas Blue Ford Maverick XLT Hybrid was destroyed.

She was going 55 mph and the guy pulled out almost in front of her, striking passenger doors and sending her into a spin into a line of traffic waiting to turn left into the road she was passing. Unfortunately, it was a triple tragedy. The vehicle waiting first in line was another 2023 White Ford Maverick XLT Hybrid. Both were totaled. The 2002 Acura RL that pulled out and initially struck my wife was also totaled. It was a triple tragedy because the owner of the white Maverick was transported via ambulance and, unfortunately, her canine friend was killed on impact.

My wife is OK, as is my dog. It handled very well in the crash and protected all occupants as well as could be. Pictures should follow tomorrow when I visit the tow yard. I am heartbroken. 13,297 mi was the final odo reading with average MPG at 51.1, never reset from when I took ownership January 9th this year.

Question of the year: should I plan on getting a new one exactly like it? We were absolutely in love.

Here are the photos. I've about decided to get a new Lariat, same color, with more options.

Kind of like driving by an accident when I read your post heading, had to look. Glad everyone is okay, sorry you lost a great looking truck.

That's good to hear, I mean about the insurance. Hopefully your wife recovers quickly and easily.

To those with loose animals in their vehicles: Always secure them. No good reason they should be free roaming or on your lap. Drives me nuts where I live seeing dogs in the bed of trucks so casually.

Out of curiosity, what insurance were you using if you care to disclose that info? From your description is seems like they have pretty much finalized the investigation.

And this is why I carry self defense... Seen too many folks involved in accidents go to check on the involved parties and become victims. One recently where a local guy was shot while investigating a vehicle that went off the road, his truck stolen and the person in question is still on the loose. Apparently had priors in 3 surrounding states.
For sure. It was a chihuahua in the white Maverick killed in the front seat by the airbag. And yes, I definitely encourage folks to legally defend themselves to the max allowed by law, while still being a good moral and prudent person and not ignoring those in need.

I owned it outright, so no. I have no idea why I even posed that question. I was tired, upset, etc. No question I am replacing with another!
It’s a very traumatic experience as I’m sure you know in your line of work. Good to share things like this and bat a few ideas around. Glad your wife and your pup are okay. Sorry to hear about the other hurt Maverick driver and their dog.

Probably Atlas Blue again, only this time an optioned-out Lariat with moon roof, black appearance, etc. Basically what I wanted the first time and settled for. I have the cash, life is short!
Oh my goodness, that's terrible! I hate hit and runs so much! I've investigated some and believe me, they are the worst. Glad you're OK.

How long did it take to reach settlement?
Oh I'm not alright. Been dealing with whiplash for awhile now. I mean, it could have been FAR worse!

And it took about 1.5 months. Not bad at all! And my new Maverick is sitting at the dealership already because another customer cancelled there's! I was lucky in that sense at least.

Well the thing is that I live in Canada and they've recently banned all firearms. Other than rifles and shotguns used for hunting. But even if you're caught with those, you're being charged, guns taken away for life and licenses taken away for life too. Our government has gotten a lot like places like North Korea and such where they control literally everything. Scary place to be!!!

Had 2 claims in last 2 yrs. If things go slow or down hill with claims person, I simply ask him or her - "My attorney wants to know the phone number and person who he should call regarding my claim." That question has helped expedite by claim timely and reasonable dollar amount of payment both times.
I've never had a problem getting claims paid in the short term, but after an accident that left me with a herniated disc, getting medical coverage extended past the 1yr mark was a hassle. My lawyer took care of it, but it was a hassle. Some doctors went unpaid for a while too. Lovely system we have here in the USA..

I'd rather be judged by 12 than carried by 6.

Besides, concealed means concealed. Nobody should ever know and if you need it, you better be able to prove beyond a reasonable doubt that it was justifiable.

I'm not advising you to break any laws, but laws don't exist to protect you - they exist to punish you.

It's the one thing keeping me from my 2 wheel trip from MT to AK through Canada. I just won't go without it.

Whew! You never know… Blessings no serious injuries.

I’ve felt safe in my Mav from the first day. Those accident pictures on this forum ALL show this compact truck can take a punch, which is what you want driving. As a consumer, it is ironic when marketing is spot on…. in this case, Built Ford Tough.

To your question: no question, buy another Maverick, it’s proven itself.(IMO)

That's the thing though. We can't even purchase handguns anymore. It sucks :(

Dogs roaming in the bed likely fare better in many accidents as opposed to dealing with the explosive force of an airbag deployment. Airbags are designed to protect humans that are properly restrained. An airbag will snap a large pet's neck and turn a small one into a missile.

This couldn't be further from the truth if you tried.

Secured means not able to move around. Seated. Yes, airbags are meant for humans but if they are secured, they are not flying anywhere. All it takes is one bump, jolt or evasive action and hard braking to send a dog in the bed to their death. No collision needed. Plus, dogs are dogs. No matter how well trained they get derpy sometimes and being unsecured in the bed while parked is just asking for a law suit. I see that all the time where I live too. People who even have their dogs in the cabs decide to leave a window down because their dog is "so well trained" but yet it barks at every soul that walks by. All it takes is one of those derpy moments and they are off. I don't know about you, but if someone's random dog charges me, I'm not risking getting bitten. I know for sure my dog would eff someone up if it wanted to and that is with training. In fact it's the reason we went through training to begin with. I could never blame someone for defending themselves against a dog like mine if it was charging at them. He won't even bark, he'll just sprint. He's disciplined right up until the moment he decides he doesn't want to be, then he's a derpy mut. Lastly, some dogs are escape artists. I've seen them crawl through half cracked windows too, like the ones in the rear of our Mavericks, and then they are free roaming around traffic. I've even rescued two and posted about it on these forums. Both times. One had just escaped out of a truck and the other was not related to a vehicle so not really worth mentioning, but when the owner came to claim them guess where they loaded them up? I'm sure you don't need a clue.

Secure your pet.

Exactly. This helped. In an update on other Mav driver, she was only taken with chest pain. I assume stress/anxiety and grief combined with the shoulder strap and age can give one a fair amount of it. She was released from the hospital same day.

I'm so sorry complications have continued this long! That's terrible!

And I hope my new Maverick takes similarly short.

I've read of some of that recently. Stay strong, and I'm sorry your government values feelings of safety more than actual safety. Trust me, my country ain't far behind!

You are 100% correct! One of the best newly developed models in this country in a long time, period, for what it is!
