OK, about a month ago I posted that I had just bought the new Ford Maverick XLT Hybrid truck. I had ordered it in Oct. of 2021 and it took almost 16 months to get it. Anyhow, one of the main reasons I chose this small pick up truck was because of its hybrid engine. Runs on battery most of the time in the city, and on the road it runs mainly on the gas. And it doesn't require the plug in electric to get recharged. It recharges on something in the breaking system called "brake regeneration". Don't ask me how it works. I'm not an engineer. But however it works, it does.
That said, the EPA estimated mileage rate was 40 MPG in the city, and 33 MPG on the road, and a combined rate of 37 MPG. So, I had picked up the truck on February 3rd and after about a week (Feb. 8th) I filled up the tank (only took about $2) and reset the odometer to zero. And today is March 8th. My gas tank was still well above half full, and my reset odometer was just over 400 miles. Figured what the heck, even though I didn't need gas, I was curious what kind of mileage I was getting. Was it going to be anywhere near the 40 MPG EPA estimate (or 37 MPG combined)? Most of my 400+ miles of driving have been in the city doing 25-45 MPH. A few miles here and there on a country road doing 55 MPH, and maybe a 10 mile stretch where I was up to 65 MPH. So I was expecting things to be somewhere between the 37 MPG and 42 MPG EPA estimate. Boy, was I surprised. No, not surprised, but rather SHOCKED.
402 miles driven. 7.56 gallons needed to fill my tank. A whopping 53 MPG!! My gas purchase at the pump was only $22.60. I love my Maverick!!
