OK, about a month ago I posted that I had just bought the new Ford Maverick XLT Hybrid truck. I had ordered it in Oct. of 2021 and it took almost 16 months to get it. Anyhow, one of the main reasons I chose this small pick up truck was because of its hybrid engine. Runs on battery most of the time in the city, and on the road it runs mainly on the gas. And it doesn't require the plug in electric to get recharged. It recharges on something in the breaking system called "brake regeneration". Don't ask me how it works. I'm not an engineer. But however it works, it does.

That said, the EPA estimated mileage rate was 40 MPG in the city, and 33 MPG on the road, and a combined rate of 37 MPG. So, I had picked up the truck on February 3rd and after about a week (Feb. 8th) I filled up the tank (only took about $2) and reset the odometer to zero. And today is March 8th. My gas tank was still well above half full, and my reset odometer was just over 400 miles. Figured what the heck, even though I didn't need gas, I was curious what kind of mileage I was getting. Was it going to be anywhere near the 40 MPG EPA estimate (or 37 MPG combined)? Most of my 400+ miles of driving have been in the city doing 25-45 MPH. A few miles here and there on a country road doing 55 MPH, and maybe a 10 mile stretch where I was up to 65 MPH. So I was expecting things to be somewhere between the 37 MPG and 42 MPG EPA estimate. Boy, was I surprised. No, not surprised, but rather SHOCKED.

402 miles driven. 7.56 gallons needed to fill my tank. A whopping 53 MPG!! My gas purchase at the pump was only $22.60. I love my Maverick!!

I am not an engineer either, but they must have a few good engineers at Ford.

It sounds like your use is perfect for high Hybrid MPG.

We are saving money while we are saving the planet (?).

Lowest I've gotten after filling up a tank is 32MPG's and Highest has been 38MPGs.

Almost 6K miles now.

I only calculate my MPGs after filling up each tank.
Never on short trips. And I don't trust the computer, so I do the basic math to get the real MPGs.

the display "Hybrid Coach" display setting helps teach the driver how to keep the needle in green..and when you are using gasoline. City streets I always get around 50-53 mpg. Always coast down hills....have never seen a vehicle coast so far.

Getting a fill-up about once a month.

Only accurate test of mpg is low fuel and a full fill-up. I've tried a little higher octane and saw no difference.

I have found that having this hybrid has calmed down my driving for sure. I had a rav4 hybrid before this and I was fast off the line and zipping around to about 38mpg. Now I am just enjoying driving this truck and try not to be too aggressive off the line or coming to a stop. Now I average 48-53mpg. I filled the tank February 22nd and still have 112 miles to go. so probably next Monday or Tuesday I will have to stop for gas.

Mine seems to be getting better with age!
My last full tank was 48 Mpg, and I don't hypermile. Mostly drive in Normal mode as well.

Not my experience at all. First half tank was 27 mpg second full tank hit 32 mpg. 1/3 city 2/3 highway. In town, the gas engine kicks in at 5% power. sometimes and my battery is shows 100% recharge. Easy grandpa driving style. So far I am thinking it needs breaking in and I am still learning hybrid techniques. But I am somewhat disappointed by how easy the gas engine kicks in with city driving.
And the displayed trip MPG is off by at least 25%. Somewhere I saw a post about ajusting the program, obviously others have had problems too.

Thanks for the report. My driving will pretty much match what you're doing so it's nice to see what I can expect. Just got built email yesterday so hopefully I'll see it in a month to 6 weeks.
