Exactly! I have no desire to buy a cheap vehicle if it won't tow my boat or haul 4x8 sheet goods, much less seat 4 people comfortably. I guess there are a number of "$19,995" buyers that only care if their vehicle has 4 tires and a steering wheel.

The same types of buyers, who bought the Orignal $1995 Maverick.
Maybe that is all those folks could Afford or maybe that is all they Wanted to spend on a vehicle. Ford Maverick offered folks a NEW Car at a reasonable price.
1970 Ford Maverick did not offer power brakes or power steering.
No no air conditioning, no glove box just a trash tray, crank windows, three on the tree manual transmission, 105hp. Only option was automatic transmission.
Back then, folks were OK with being somewhat uncomfortable.

Not trying to be obtuse or literal but everyone knows there is a truck premium and that is not reserved for Mavericks. Take an XL F-150 Super Crew (4x2) that will run you $46k with zero options, $50k if you want 4x4 and for that price tag you can get SO much more vehicle.

$39,300 (x-plan) for a fully loaded "compact" pick up truck that is AWD, tows 4k lbs, and gets 40mpg is an amazing value.

It's hard to compare the Lariat pre-2024 because you would have to be comparing the price of a fully loaded pre-2024 to todays' price since you could get a "stripped" down Lariat that wasn't that much more money than a XLT. When you look at a '25 Lariat you really are getting a lot of toys like 360 camera, ACC, ect. Another thing people sometimes miss is the extra insulation and better windscreen that give the Lariat a more quiet drive than other models. That was one of the first things I noticed when I went from a XLT to a Lariat.

Correct. XL is everything you need and nothing you don’t.
"Everything you've always wanted in a beer. And less." That comes to mind as well.

For under $29K (after Uncle Sam took his share) I received what I wanted and none of what I didn't want and wouldn't use. IMO it would have been perfect if the factory gave better options for tires and the downhill decent was included.

Prices have jumped but so much more vehicle available in the Lariat than when you purchased yours.
I ordered a Cyber Orange Lariat Luxury Hybrid in 10/2021 from Ed in PA. So, it had all the options and an extra cost paint color. My price was $29,600 plus tax.

Of the 4 Mavericks I have owned, the Lariat was - by far - my least favorite. I am a person who typically buys top trim, fully optioned vehicles. But in the case of the Maverick, I really felt like it was a waste. The stuff it had over the XLs I also owned either didn't work well enough to be useful (adaptive cruise very weird braking behavior) or the truck wasn't built well enough to take advantage of (B&O stereo just caused massive panel rattles).

I cannot imagine spending $40k for the same experience 2 years later.

Good thing you don’t have to. AWD, 4K tow, sync 4, 13.2” and 8” screens, new eCVT - all worth it to me.

AC, power windows, power mirrors, decent stereo and cruise control are really the only necessities for me. Spending another 60% on top of the $25K I paid just for all those extra doodads was never a consideration. That $15K will serve me better elsewhere.
