I've seen several posts here where people say they thought they were getting "X" but they got or just learned that they get "Y". This applies to people who ordered a Maverick as well as bought off the dealers lot.

Examples I've seen include -

I thought the XL had cruise control
I thought the Maverick had a CD player
I thought the Maverick had built in navigation
I thought the XLT had Sirius XM
I thought the Lariat without Lux had active cruise control
I thought my hybrid got a full size spare without buying copilot 360
I thought the full size spare option was the same size as the other 4 tires

There's probably more, but these are what I can recall right now.

The question is how does this happen?

Is Ford's online information not clear enough? It does take some digging, that's for sure.

Are the dealership sales people not doing a good job of learning everything the customer wants and explaining the options and or packages required to get them? There are some poor sales people out there unfortunately.

Is the customer not doing their due diligence before handing out $20-30K or more?

I thought I had done good research and I did know all of the above except I learned about the faux full size spare tire here on this forum.

How can this lack of information in the age of information that we live in be improved?

I'd say some improvement of complete (and correct) information on the Ford build and price website would benefit the most.

What say you?
I thought the keyless entry would have been included!??!!! But ~ not.

My 2016 Escape had one. I'm not sure if my 2018 has one. I've never used it if it does.
The last model year that Ford put a CD player in their vehicles was 2018.

I checked today. Yup, it has a CD player. Never used it.

I will admit that I thought I had read as much as I could and did countless build and price combinations, however I was still surprised by a few things on my Maverick. In retrospect, I did make some assumptions as I had no real truck to look at.

I had a 2011 Edge, 2012 Edge, 2016 Edge, and have a 2015 Mustang and 2018 Explorer and all had electrochromic rear view mirrors, so I did just assume Ford was putting them on all vehicles these days. They also had one touch-down and one-touch up power windows, so I assumed the Maverick would have one-touch up when it touted one-touch down. Minor inconvenience is all.

I will admit, I was also surprised to turn on the radio and not find satellite as even my old 2008 stripper Ranger XL had that on its radio and it had no options. No big deal to me, but still a surprise.

I am still trying to figure out what they meant by pre-collision warning on the XLT lux with 360 as I haven’t seen it work yet. My Explorer you get too close to some bumps in the road and it squawks at you.

I do have an embarrassing, yet funny story about the lack of push-button start. All of the 2011 and newer Ford vehicles I have owned above had it, so I just became conditioned to expect it. My Maverick was the very first one to arrive on my dealer’s lot or any of the lots nearby. As soon as it was off the delivery truck I was called and went excitedly to see it. The dealer handed me the keys and asked if I wanted to be the first to drive it before they did PDI. I sat in the driver’s seat for 5 minutes looking for the start button, then he knocked on the window and asked if it was out of gas. I mentioned I couldn’t find the start button and he chuckled and suggested I try the key. I did feel silly and reminded myself I knew it wouldn’t have a start button. LOL.

Of all the small surprises, the only one that has upset me so far is the tires. When ordering g the FX4, I expected proper all- terrain tires. I was extremely disappointed to see the crappy Pirelli tires that it was delivered with. I was even more upset when a couple days later an XL showed up with proper AT tires.
