I picked up my Maverick with 10 miles on the odometer, which I think is the lowest I've ever had. My '01 Dakota may have had single digits, but I can't recall exactly.

Anyway, the "miles to empty" number when I drove it home was 309. Now, I've driven it over 100 miles*, and the "miles to empty" is 314. Ha, it's like magic! :D

*I picked it up, and we left the next day for a 16 day vacation to Europe. She sat in my garage until last Thursday!

You are probably driving it with much more electric driving (if a hybrid) or driving it more efficiently than the drivers of the original 10 miles.

Might be due to heat and expansion with your fuel pump giving off heat located in the tank.

No, it's because it's a hybrid. I've been driving a Ford hybrid since 2016, so I have some familiarity. :)

Mine did same thing. I think until the computer adjusts to your driving habits it will vary. The next fill-up it was more accurate.

This. Always gives me a smile when I am driving down the road watching "miles to empty" go up.
