Mexican pricing

I was talking to a buddy and we got onto vehicle prices in Mexico as he'd just bought a VW Saviero (lil car based pickup) and mentioned that he looked at the Maverick and thought it was pretty cool but they're really expensive down there.
Of course I had to go check out the website and yup, very expensive with a strange range of models; no XL at all, XLT is FWD only and starts at around $40k USD, Lariat is AWD and $47k, hybrid is even more and the Tremor is the range topper at $52k.

It seems like they're trying to position the Maverick as a premium model, or maybe all Fords are just expensive in Mexico? I didn't look at other models but in comparison the Saviero was only $19k USD so it's no wonder you see them everywhere in Mexico.

It is expensive.... and you cannot order it with 4K Tow either..

When I see cool cars like the VW Saviero in a 2 door, I get even more frustrated with the overbearing EPA restrictions that don't make sense and keep us from being able to have one in the USA.

Last time I checked you could still by the original Ford Ranger in Mexico at a decent price. No way to get it to the US though, won’t pass emissions.

really don't know how Mexico taxes vehicles when first sold but but do know there is a 16% tax when importing a private car/truck.
Without knowing how Mexico deals with sales fees and taxes I think it's a mistake blaming Ford for the price difference.

you also have to take into consideration the rate of exchange on the currencies

Not really an import when they're already built in Mexico. And in any case USMCA would apply.

I'm not blaming persay, but for a vehicle that's made in Mexico it just struck me as really expensive, at least compared to some of the options my friend and I discussed.
I really only went to ford's Mexican website to see if they go any cool options or trim/accessories that we don't get in an opportunity to partsbin some modifications haha.
