Maverick vs sedan?

I don't consider the maverick a replacement for a truck, but as a full size sedan owner I think it will work for me with a tonneau cover.

So should the maverick be compared to mid size cars like Camry, Accord, fusion
Or
Is it more compact like Carolla, civic, focus sized?

Well, you'd probably be better off comparing it to the Escape (I believe it is being assembled in that plant)

It’s about the same price as a Civic (hybrid maverick anyways).
I’ll take a $24,000 XLT maverick over an EX Civic. Trucks just take abuse better than a sedan.

It largely depends on where you are and what direction you're coming from. There's several avenues to the Maverick, including but not limited to:

-A fuel efficient utility vehicle
-Low cost fleet light-duty work truck (Service personal who need a bed for tools but not for large objects)
-Cost effective option for people who buy trucks for their cab experience but not their truck usage (Fat/old people who buy F150s because its hard to get into and out of a modern small-body sedan, for example)
-Low cost people mover (Cheap sedan alternative)

Compare it to what you'd otherwise be getting and try not to worry about the rest too much.

I'm actually thinking interior room and crash safety.

I don't consider compact cars safe, but midsized is better. Of course I'd rather be in a full size truck in an accident but I'm not wanting to spend 50k.

After checking out the numbers, it's fairly similar in size to the Honda Crosstour that I had until last year. So I'd say a comparison to a mid-sized sedan is fair. After seeing one in person, it's definitely bigger than a compact car, but not as big as an Escape.

Not sure what to compare it with which is why I am buying one. I don't need a full size truck, definitely not the price tag or mpg, and I am not a fan of the other SUV's although the Bronco Sport isn't bad. The Maverick gives me the versatility that I want along with the price/mpg. I wasn't looking to buy a vehicle but this just fits my needs so well that I decided to get it. AWD, FX4, XLT with LUX, for a very reasonable price. To each their own but the Maverick just checks most of my wants and needs.

More than once I had the idea of a SUV instead of the Maverick... and I’d be worried about some of the do it your selfers stuff I would carry once in a... while like 2-3 times a year I might carry bags of mulch....lumber etc. for home owner projects.
Could I do it ? of course but when you can buy a truck with enough for this price, I quickly shot down this idea and the Toyota Taco and the Nissan Frontier ideas. Based on gas mileage and prices

I had three Rangers and currently drive a frontier, my last vehicle was a Focus. For me it bridges that truck vs car split. It's a car with a small bed, which is what my commute needs, and my other activities demand.
I kayak and mountain bike in summer and cross country ski in the winter, a FWD truck will be nice for gravel parking lots with muddy spots and often those same parking lots with a couple inches of snow in the winter.
I've never owned a 4wd truck, and don't care to, but I know a FWD won't get stuck where a RWD truck will.

Ok so take this with a grain of salt, since I have not driven the Maverick and have no basis for these thoughts other than having driven trucks, SUVs and sedans.

My take is the Camry/accords are probably going to have a better driving experience than a Maverick. Things like build quality, road noise and interior comfort are "probably" better in the midsize sedans.

Compact sedans "might" be closer in the road noise and overall build quality, but that will vary even within the compact category by what make/options you have.

I've had 2 Expeditions,aJeep Grand Cheeroke,and never used them to carry mulch or "dirty stuff" because I always had my F150. A truck bed is worth its weight in gold. I don't like getting cars,SUVs dirty. Give me a truck any day!!

Sure,I am in a similar situation. Driving a Smartcar really limits your capacity. But the Maverick is just the right size to carry a lot,get dirty,good mileage,and won't take up a lot of space. My '96 F150 is in its last days,for what I need the Maverick is a good fit.
