My wife currently drives a 2022 PHEV Escape SEL, which she likes primarily because it allows her to drive in the California HOV lanes by herself. Unfortunately, these "carpool lane" stickers will expire in early 2025. Consequently, my wife declared she plans on commandeering my 2023 EB AWD Ford Maverick XLT as soon as this happens. The best part of this declaration is that it meant I could sell the Escape and get whatever I wanted.
She wasn't prepared for my response. I told her she couldn't have it.
Some folks might have read my son's story. He decided to buy a Ford Maverick shortly after he borrowed mine last year. We ordered a Hot Pepper Red 2024 XL Hybrid with CP360/Tow Hitch/SPIBL last July. However, we were able to purchase a Cactus Gray 2023 XLT Maverick from Long McArthur Ford in Salina, Kansas, for nearly the same price as the 2024 XL Hybrid's MSRP. Although we notified the dealer we ordered the XL Hybrid from that we no longer needed it, they didn't cancel the order.
My wife and I discussed it, and we decided to purchase the 2024 XL Hybrid for her if it was scheduled for production. Then, we found out it had been scheduled for the week of 04/22.
I continue to monitor the Long McArthur Ford inventory as a Tim Bartz (@fordvideoguy) YouTube Member. A customer didn't purchase their retail-ordered 2024 Atlas Blue Maverick XL Hybrid, so we decided to purchase it instead of waiting for the scheduled one to be built.
I flew to Wichita, took an Uber to Salina, and stayed at the hotel within walking distance of the dealership last Thursday. I walked from the hotel to the dealer, and I picked up the Maverick on Friday morning.
I pulled into our driveway in Southern California at 7:30 PM Saturday night after 1473 miles driven in 21.5 hours.
The folks at Long McArthur Ford were easy and wonderful to work with - again.
I did take a couple of pictures in the middle of Kansas that remind me of the closing scenes of Tom Hanks in Cast Away. There were no cars in either direction for the several minutes that I was standing there taking pictures.
