Actually the constant blaming of Electric Vehicles and even hybrids for catching fire..is over blown. Gas vehicles catch on fire more frequently. And when a gas truck does...well, look at the damage.

EVs made up just 5% of all cars sold in the US in 2022 and an even less percentage of cars actively being driven. Ergo when one catches on fire, a higher percentage of those vehicles are burning at one time. It's simple math and why it is a bigger deal.

where are your facts?
Auto Insurance companies supply some, as thy would know:
  • Millions of gas, hybrid, and electric vehicles are recalled annually for fire risks
  • Gas vehicles have the most manufacturer recalls for fire risk defects
  • Electric vehicles catch fire less often, but electric car fires can be harder to put out than gas car fires

In 2019, there were almost 190,000 vehicle fires in the US alone—only a tiny fraction of them involving EVs.

“From 2012 to 2020, there has been approximately one Tesla vehicle fire for every 205 million miles traveled,” Tesla tells us. “By comparison, data from the National Fire Protection Association (NFPA) and US Department of Transportation show that, in the US, there is one vehicle fire for every 19 million miles traveled.”

“In order to provide an apt comparison to NFPA data, Tesla’s data set includes instances of vehicle fires caused by structure fires, arson and other reasons unrelated to the vehicle, which account for some of the Tesla vehicle fires over this time period.

Overall, EVs are about 0.3 percent likely to ignite, versus a 1.05 percent likelihood for gas cars, according to the Bureau of Transportation Statistics and the National Transportation Safety Board compiled by Auto Insurance EZ last year.Feb 2, 2023

An industry analytics firm. But some random website named "Insurance EZ" is likely to be more accurate.

It is a problem...I have an EV. So far ok. I don't know anyone who has had a fire. They are harder to put out. Guess I am a risk taker. I do enjoy the charging at home were I get a full charge for less than $7, for 300 miles, but electric rates will most likely go up.
