So can someone explain whats going on with the grills. Where is this variation coming from on them?

Well at a minimum the third grill is aftermarket, and the first one the insert is and so possibly is the rest of it.

XLT has the best looking grill in my opinion

Well at a minimum the third grill is aftermarket, and the first one the insert is and so possibly is the rest of it.

Only the lights are aftermarket on the third (Lariat). The first one (XL) just has a decal on the crossbar (which on the XL is part of the grille as a whole vs separate on the other trims).

IMO Lariat grille looks the best along with the machined face aluminum wheels. Very sharp.

now that I know I my mav will be produced, ill be looking at doing some kind of grill mod, I'm just not a fan of the lariat as it is.

Also if you have the Lux package, there is a square section in the center, bottom area of the grill for the radar senser if you have the cruise control with distance monitoring.
