Not new information.Pretend whatever you want to, but the word means what the word means, and if you want a Ford Maverick emblem, it was designed decades ago.
It's not a matter of pretending, as words change meaning over time.
Awful many years ago meant full of awe. Now it doesn't.
While a maverick was originally coined to refer to an unbranded range animal, especially a calf that has become separated from its mother, its currently used definition refers to a person who shows independence of thought and action, especially by refusing to adhere to the policies of a group to which he or she belongs.
I think Ford was thinking this latter definition applies to its vehicle, and it's just slightly more likely that the Top Gun Tom Cruise character did not adopt the call sign Maverick because he wanted people to think of him as a quadrupedal bovine herbivore.
You are right that what you noted were Ford Maverick emblems, but does it fit?
Back in the day when mavericks were cows maybe it did.
