So I’m sitting here waiting for my pizza to be finished and I get this thought… the pre21 ford Escapes had paddle shifters on the 2.0t and the Lincoln nautilus does also I believe (maybe with the tow package)..

A lot of issues people are having on the dyno is the locking of a gear to get a proper dyno reading. (Not that dyno numbers actually matter)..

I have ZERO knowledge of forscan but if I was able to get the steering wheel, paddle shifter assembly, and wiring. (Probably would need other things but it’s a quick, hungry thought anyways) would I be able to code the PCM/TCM to allow me to use the paddles in sport mode successfully?

(I’m not asking about cost or cost effectiveness, this is simple speculation outside of the financial realm currently.. plus I work for a ford dealer so cost is whatever)

I'd first look to see if paddle shifters have ever been added to any other Ford vehicles of a similar vintage that did not originally have them, and use those results as a basic guide.

As to whether or not it would work, I think you'd be the guinea pig.

I don’t mind being the Guinea pig if I decide to actually go through with this.

But underneath the sheet metal, it’s essentially an escape/bronco sport so if I can retrofit the applicable parts, I’d definitely attempt it. I gotta see how the electrical is wired and see if the pcm part numbers match or not. All just formidable speculation currently.

I read somewhere that Motorcraft Service has the applicable wiring diagrams.

$21.95 for 72 hours of access. Other plans available.

Every body (not meaning you) seems to forget the stablemate, the BS Badlands, it has paddle shifters.

I work for a ford dealer lol. And I have Mitchell1 so I can check there also.

Hybrid no, EcoBoost yes with enough dedication. After all, 2020 Escape had the same 2.0L EB and 8F35 transmission, with paddle shifters on the steering wheel.

They cost-cut that feature out for 2021+, but the software should still support it on your Maverick...
I tried for the life of me to look for a posting about it before I made one and I guess I must’ve overlooked it all.. I’ll check out part numbers and what not tomorrow

I saw, but I wasn't sure if that included service access, since you commented about needing to see wiring. If you can get that data without extra cost, great! Learning whether or not its possible would do the community a service.

More so seeing how the wiring is actually ran from the steering wheel to the PCM. Like if I can just replace the harness or run a wire or two to a pin out on the PCM. But I’ll look into all that tomorrow. If the pinouts are similar were in business.

So far in my findings, alot of the ford smaller turbo SUV/turbo Sedans use the same XXXX-12A650-XX base part for the PCM.. No listing for TCM?? Open TSB calls for reprogramming of "PCM/TCM".. did manufacturers finally smarted up and realize you dont need 2 ecus for powertrain control??

This being said, i assume with forscan you can reprogram the PCM and/or make changes as needed (aside from tuning)..

The steering wheels (WITHOUT) airbags are a pretty penny even at cost.. wondering if i can get one used/2nd hand for significantly less..

For some reason, Mustang steering wheels are unrealistically cheaper than mav/escape/bronco sport.. gonna see if i can find a used steering wheel with no AB to check fit.. if it does fit, it makes the potential for this idea more financially reasonable for others.. Plus the gt350r steering wheel is aesthetically pleasing.
