Anybody have any advice on the best way to load a queen sized mattress in a Maverick?
I have to move one in the near future and I'm just trying to wrap my head around it...

Yep, I was going to say that instead of wrapping your head around it, wrap some tie-downs around it instead! :) Totally kidding.

Here's a quick fun video of someone hauling two mattresses, plus the bed parts:

I would do as Sarah suggested and do another tie-down around the end of the mattress, even if for peace of mind.

I moved a twin mattress last weekend, that one was easier because it fits between the wheel wells, but I wouldn’t hesitate to move a Queen

also get a plastic mattress bag from Home Depot so you don’t need to worry about dirt or rain.

Hauled a full, not a queen, last week. Short trip, but no issues.

EDIT TO ADD:

I took my hard tonneau off. If you're thinking of putting a mattress on top of the cover, don't do it. The cover blocks all the tie-down points for straps, so you're going to lose that mattress. Bad idea, unless you have something built with over-the-cover rails or tie-down points.

I've hauled numerous pieces of furniture, including tables, sofas, mattresses and 12 boxes hardwood flooring at different times of course. It may take a little imagination on how to position the item but it will fit. Ratchet straps are your friend.

I moved a queen on mine. I have a hard bed cover so I laid it on that and ran a tie down lengthwise attached to the hitch then put the strap through the rear window and attached it to one of the seat locks behind the rear seat. It worked well but without the bed cover or rear window I’m not sure of the best way.

I have a hard tri-fold tonneau cover. I took two lengths of paracord, raised the cover up, tied a loop to one end of each cord, then ran each across the bed, and laid the cover back down. Put the mattress on top of the cover, and secured each length of cord. The mattress didn't budge, it was at the same place as when I started. Not a problem at all. I don't know if it would have been good at highway speeds for a long distance, but it did just fine for a short trip at city speeds.
