Mabett side markers

By far one of my favorite add on has been the Mabett side marker lights. Fairly easy install and look great! I read the biggest issues is water seeping in and figuring out the wire colors. Just ran my through the car wash. So far so good but time will tell. Found a good install video.

Also made a wiring chart. Mine is a 22 Lariat. It may be different for other years and models. Here are some photos

Unfortunately the passenger side leaked after the first car wash. I am returning for a new set. Have not found the reason for the leak. Recommend sealing all the screw holes holding the black trim on the light with RTV before installing. Once moisture gets inside it is impossible to get out. Hope the next set is better as I love the lights. Hope your set works!

I didn’t think about it at the time, but the original badges had a bit of gasket material between them and the sheet metal. I noticed that when I was putting the original badges in the shipping box for safe keeping.

I wonder if it might be a good idea to cut something to shape for the new markers…

I think the markers don’t need to be real watertight to the body as water can hit them from behind the fender. The Mabett markers have an intentional gap between the actual lens and its black trim. I think the lens leak happens where the screws hold the marker trim to the lens. But this is just my guess. Will seal the replacement lenses as best I can before installation.

I'm getting ready to install them today. I went and bought some waterproof silicone to put all around that gap you mentioned, as well as the screws. Hopefully that does the job.

Ordered a new replacement set. Disassembled the black cover. Siliconed the seam where clear plastic meets the black back plate and two center screws holes before reassembly. Not sure if it was needed but better to seal before moisture gets in. Once that happens you will never get it dried out. Only replaced the passenger side as driver side is ok.
