Do the 8 hour trip as a new key is going to cost at least $400.00 and it is an unexpected cost in the middle of a trip plus having the key faster. You might also put a AirTag type device on the key ring after this misadventure so you can find the key if you lose it in the future
[/QUOTE. I bought an extra key when I got my Maverick it was 225

My brother in law was living in England. Decided to come to the US for the summer. Hid the keys to their car (some sort of GM product). When they got back couldn’t remember where they hid the keys. They lived near Cambridge. The option was going to be to load the car on a truck and haul it to London to have a new key made. Luckily they found the keys before that was necessary.
All our keys have itags attached

I'd personally have a key made. $400 to save 8 hrs on a trip plus fuel cost plus the possibility of something happening to your friends vehicle, is worth the piece of mind. AND, you'll have a second key that you ultimately would like to have when your weekend is over, anyways.
tow truck was going to be $150 which isn’t horrible but also don’t want to tow my maverick that far if I don’t have to. spare key secured here’s to 4 more hours

I get it, but like any key its there, just missing. I spend a "wonderful" afternoon once on vacation hunting for the key fob of the rental. We were getting stuff out of the rear and it fell into the 'new to me' machinery. Only took 20min or so, but serious angst until I saw it. A black key fob against a black background. Ever since, keys for me.
Is it just the physical key, or need a programmed key fob.
