I could tow it to a dealership about 30 minutes away to have a key made. Or I could make an 8 hour trip in a friends car to retrieve the other key. Not sure if towing would be worth the cost. Dealership would also need to have a key on hand.

Any advice? What a day.

I’m not sure that you need to have the vehicle at the dealership for them to get you a key. Wait until morning and call them before you make the 8hr drive.

Do what I did, I ordered 4 key fobs when I ordered my build of my 25 Maverick Hybrid, then when the dealer tried to tell you at the time you pick up the truck that you have to pay extra them, you'll complain to Ford well I got my key fobs free

Do the 8 hour trip as a new key is going to cost at least $400.00 and it is an unexpected cost in the middle of a trip plus having the key faster. You might also put a AirTag type device on the key ring after this misadventure so you can find the key if you lose it in the future

May ask, what the activity or circumstances were when the key was lost?

I wish. All of my local friends came on the trip. Family is on vacation. Kinda worst case scenario.

I'd personally have a key made. $400 to save 8 hrs on a trip plus fuel cost plus the possibility of something happening to your friends vehicle, is worth the piece of mind. AND, you'll have a second key that you ultimately would like to have when your weekend is over, anyways.

The actual issue is the fact “IF” the dealership even has the cut key in stock and “IF@ they have a tech available immediately which I doubt. To order the cut key is three to four days and then to have to then deal with getting someone to the vehicle where it is parked and locked with the second possibility of the tow. Cheaper probably and faster to just go on the four hour trip.

Oh wow. I had no idea that a new key is a 3-4 day ordeal.

I recently bought a used 2022 and I only got one key. I made a fuss and the dealership got me a second key and paid to have it programmed it took a week and half for everything.

Agree on both points. I've got AirTags on keyrings, in a backpack, and even on a thumb drive. I've got no experience outside the Apple ecosystem, but I know Tile etc. exist.

You can unlock it all day, but you can't drive it.

I'm assuming the key is lost outside the truck - but to your point, it's hard to verify one way or the other unless you can get in the truck...
