I was doing a tire rotation today and noticed what looks like grease on the passenger side CV axle. Driver side is completely dry with normal surface rust. Looks like it is spraying on other parts in the area as well. I couldn't find any tear in the boot, but I didn't crawl under the truck. I suspect it's a sign that it's going, since I get some vibration while driving at freeway speeds (100km/h or 62MPH). A first I thought it was just bumps on the road, but I have noticed it before as well. '22 Hybrid with over 22k miles.

Based off your picture, it does look to me like that boot is starting to weep. You should still be under warranty, so might not be a bad idea to get it replaced just for the peace of mind!

It is known that there is a problem with some of the CV joints. I just hit about 40,000 on mine, and the front end starts to vibrate when accelerating. Next time I take it in for an oil change, I will have them change them.

I had the same issues at the same mileage. '22 XL Hybrid. Read other threads which pointed to the CV axles. Took it to the dealer and after a test drive (accelerating) and then putting it on a lift they confirmed one of the CV axles had failed. They had the new designed ones on stock. They replaced both (I read that some dealers only replace the obviously bad one) and had it back to me the same day. Everything was covered under the Power Train Warranty which is 5 yrs/60K miles. Just be very specific when you explain the issue to the advisor.

Thanks all, been here on MTC since 2021, so I almost expected an axle failure to at some point. At least it is happening while I am still under bump to bumper warranty, rather than trying to fight with them under power-train or the Ford extended warranty.

Have an appointment for next week, of course the service adviser on the phone was hopeless, he'd never heard of the problem before.

Sad.
If you have the option, take it to another stealership.

Yeah if they won't do anything I will. The service advisers there are kind of useless, but at least the techs and warranty rep seem to know about stuff. I've had other issues and it's always been taken care of.

Update, got a much better service adviser when I was at the dealership in person. After an inspection and the backup camera recall software update, I'm getting a new axle in a few weeks under warranty. :)

Axle was replaced today, and vibration is gone as expected. I just hope that if the driver side one goes, it happens while I'm still under powertrain warranty.

Edit: I wonder if I got the revised axle or old stock? I tried to find the thread where people had both part numbers but I'm having trouble finding it. Anyone have it bookmarked?

Edit 2: Found it, I got part # SZ6Z*3B436*E Even after reading the thread about the new part, I'm not sure if I got the revised version or not. The below is from the thread about the part #. What's not clear is, are those part numbers both of the new ones (driver side and passenger side), or is one the old part # vs the new one?

Okay, more digging and yes it looks like I got the revised part. Hopefully I don't have to deal with this again...

Ordered. We'll see how long it takes to get them.

"NZ" is the older part numbers for axles
"SZ" is the newer part numbers for axles

In the pic you referenced below, I am showing i ordered new part numbers for
both driver (left) and passenger (right) axles.

Thanks, I think I got myself into a flutter for nothing due to information overload. Hopefully nobody is getting the old part at this point in mid-2025. Parts availability must be improving, since I was able to get the issue confirmed and a new part installed in just 7 days.
