Leer bed topper

Apologies but I am a novice on Reddit and have trouble with searching for answers.

I have a 2025 Lariat on order… and after seeing another vehicle today I am seriously considering ordering a Bed Topper.

Looking for recommendations…. and advise. I see Ford sells a “color matched” LEER unit for $4500. I like the look dea a f matching my Ruby Red color… but wondering about less expensive option.

Rather than going through your Ford dealer, check around for RV or custom shops in your area that sell Leer tops. I was quoted appx $4700-$4800 from the dealer; looked around and got the same Leer-branded top for the Maverick (color-matched as well) for appx $3500 from a specialty dealer. Still not super-cheap but the look and fit are great.

I received my Hybrid AWD Lariat in Explosion Green on June 20 - I had already done my research on the topper. I needed a mid-rise to accommodate my wife's folding electric trike when we flat tow. I checked out the Leer and S-Cargo dealers and found out Leer and S-Cargo have some kind of relationship. I ended up going with the S-Cargo dealer and actually bought a Ranch brand. They had a Maverick there with a mid-rise Ranch cap. I added a Windoor on one side so I can easily access the bed from the side and a regular slider with screen on the passenger side. I also added Rhino rails to the top so if I want to add racks later I can without having to drill, etc. I can also add hooks to the rails to lift off the topper in the garage with a pulley system if I need two take it off to haul something. I had the interior of the topper carpeted so it would be dark and I intend to tint the windows since the trike is worth $2500. I also added a flip down front window. It will be color matched and the total cost with tax is $3567.28 1/3 down, balance on delivery. 6 weeks was quoted for production. I will post pics when installed.

Why would you pay thousands for that and instead just get an SUV. Sorry but those make the truck look like an SUV. Also limits what you can carry. You could get more stuff in an Escape.

1) The new Escapes can’t be flat towed
2) The trike won’t fit in an Escape, it barely fit in an Explorer
3) Tow weight limit on my RV is 5,000 lbs, even an F-150 with all the aluminum comes in at about 4,900 lbs w/o a baseplate or cargo
4) It is replacing my 2005 F-150, since it has a tow package and the most I tow is about 3,500 lb

Did you have to install the bed reinforcement brackets ???

I'm not using any bars on top of the topper, so no reinforcement needed there- the topper itself is just clamped to the bed rail as usual- the deal handled the install and necessary wiring for the lights in the topper. Or is there something else you meant?

Nope, that's it. The brackets were for a pre Oct 2024 Ford Ranger. My cap vender said I'd need them on my 2025 Maverick, which cannot be true because no one including the dealer has any info on this.
