Lincoln Continental, Ford Thunderbird and Ford Taurus in the 80's-90's offered as a option $$$$$
Ford’s Quick Defrost system, which featured a transparent, thinly coated gold-bearing metallic film sandwiched between layers of polyvinyl butyral and glass. A second alternator fed an electric current to the film to clear the frost or ice, 5X faster than traditional defroster.
Ford changed engineering and designs over the years. I don't know if Ford still holds Trademark's and patents.
Yes! My Grandfather had it on his 1988 Taurus. It wasn't just the wiper area though, it defrosted the whole windshield in just a minute or two and it worked really well. In the U.S. Ford called it the Instaclear Windshield and from past research I've done it was called Quickclear in Europe. I remember the Instaclear windshields had a gold tint to them and they had a short run. I think they were only available on the first gen Taurus/Sable and maybe the the Crown Vic/Grand Marquis of the late 80's. By the time the second gen Taurus was introduced the Instaclear windshield was no longer available.

There isn't much information on the internet about it but I did find one article that give a pretty good overview of what it was even if the article is not completely accurate. I also found an old Taurus commercial that shows the windshield in action.

Since it's connected to the mirrors I was thinking it wouldn't be to hard to add if you can activate it in forscan.
The wiring diagrams show it is a pretty simple connection, a single output controlled by software via the BJB (battery junction box) under the hood. The fuse will be missing, but the BJB is likely equipped with all the relays already populated. (See below)

The windshield connector is just two pins, power and ground. (See below) Presumably the windshield comes with the C1788 connector, so all you’d have to do is run a 16 awg wire to pin 38 on the big BJB connector, and one to a local ground. You could find a corresponding connector (better for future windshield replacements), or just cut and splice. I assume activation with Forscan would also be needed.

According to the physical diagrams, the C1788 connector is normally located near the passenger side strut, close to the windshield.

Probably worth getting the upgraded replacement windshield anyway when you next get a crack, because it will also come with the quieter laminated windshield you get on the Lariat.

Thanks for that. That's what I've been thinking. When I have a Mav, if I need a window replacement, I'd get the Lariat glass.
