Your statement presumes that lariat buyers are in the same financial situation that you are, where they can’t realistically afford the higher asking price. But that’s not the case. I’m in my 50’s. I’ve been working for over 30 years. My house is paid off. My other car is paid off. I have no dependents. I have no credit card debt. And my investment accounts are flush with cash.Agreed, I do like heated seats in my cold climate so needs the XLT, but XL is a steal. Lariat purchasers just have to justify their buy!
The vehicles I was cross shopping were the Cyber Truck, the Rivian R1T and the F-150 lightning. But they are all too large to fit in my garage, they are hard to maneuver and park and they all weigh like 7,000 lbs, which hurts economy, off-road ability and safety to other drivers and pedestrians.
After 6 months or so of mulling over the options, I had an “aha” moment and decided I should go look at awd mavericks because of their small size and good looks. When I drove one, I immediately loved it.
So, do I have to justify $38k for an awd fx4
lariat? Nope. It’s a steal, costing less than half of the other options I was considering.
And it’s only the lariat trim level that can compete with the more upscale trucks. One look at the xl and xlt and I was like, “Nope”.
