Agreed, I do like heated seats in my cold climate so needs the XLT, but XL is a steal. Lariat purchasers just have to justify their buy!
Your statement presumes that lariat buyers are in the same financial situation that you are, where they can’t realistically afford the higher asking price. But that’s not the case. I’m in my 50’s. I’ve been working for over 30 years. My house is paid off. My other car is paid off. I have no dependents. I have no credit card debt. And my investment accounts are flush with cash.

The vehicles I was cross shopping were the Cyber Truck, the Rivian R1T and the F-150 lightning. But they are all too large to fit in my garage, they are hard to maneuver and park and they all weigh like 7,000 lbs, which hurts economy, off-road ability and safety to other drivers and pedestrians.

After 6 months or so of mulling over the options, I had an “aha” moment and decided I should go look at awd mavericks because of their small size and good looks. When I drove one, I immediately loved it.

So, do I have to justify $38k for an awd fx4
lariat? Nope. It’s a steal, costing less than half of the other options I was considering.

And it’s only the lariat trim level that can compete with the more upscale trucks. One look at the xl and xlt and I was like, “Nope”.

I’m paying my house off this month!!!! 8 years into my 30 year, I am 34. I put my request in earlier, the payoff paperwork for Feb 26!

I’ve never done a wire payment before but I guess I have too to close out my mortgage.

I was going to wait to pay it off to not tank my credit, but I doubt paying it off harms it much, if it does oh well. I should still get a good rate when I get Maverick loan.

Even if I was a millionaire I wouldn't but the Lariat. I'd buy a nice f150, I just don't understand the luxary tiny truck I suppose.

The lariat maverick is not a luxury tiny truck. It is a nice midsized truck. The new Maverick is larger than the last Ranger I had in the late 90’s and its larger than short-bed F-150’s from the 1970’s.

And the lariat Maverick is no where near as luxurious, or nearly expensive as something like a Rivian that has hand stitched napa leather, exposed grain walnut inlays, Dolby atmos sound system and an alcantara headliner. The lariat is “nice”, not luxury. Likewise the xlt is mediocre at best and the xl is straight econobox. I didn’t want econobox. But I also didn't want something that I have to leave parked in my driveway 24/7/365 because it wouldn’t fit in my garage. Bigger does not equal better. Usually going big is a sign that you’re compensating.

Clearly your standards are ridiculously high lol. Never heard of a 13 inch screen as econobox

I’m not envious of the extra 10-12 grand cost for the Lariat. I got an XL with CoPilot 360, spray in liner, tow hitch, swapped out the steelies for aftermarkets and called it a day. Saved 10-12 grand.
If I could do it all over I’d do the same. Except I’d keep the steelies, because I think they’re tits.

Agreed (except the steelies lol). Some people in this economy should learn how to better spend their wealth. Although, thanks to them, higher trim products exist which to an extent validate the lower cost of the ideal models. Win win I suppose!

Nah, for the Tesla, you just whistle.

It comes running, and you leap off the roof to land in the saddle at full speed, somehow not damaging the family jewels.

Oh, wait; never mind. I'm thinking of Trigger . . .

I was going to wait to pay it off to not tank my credit, but I doubt paying it off harms it much,
Paying it off won't hurt your credit.

However, in seven years or so , it falls off the report, which can affect the "multiple types of credit" points.

I was kind of surprised a while back when my last car loan aged off my report (paid off in 2012), leaving my report with no "installment credit." It was a modest hit, but not lethal.

So getting a loan that I don't need for the coming maverick will put one on the report for when I want a mortgage in a year or two.

(And I may well create another account, move mutual funds to it, and pay from that account. I'll still have a large part, maybe most, of the purchase price when it makes the last payment!)

As a gross over-generalization, paying off a mortgage you deduct while not absolutely maxing out Roth type accounts (or even traditional IRA/401k) may be penny wise and pound foolish: in the long run, returns are much higher for equities in tax deferred retirement accounts than to pay mortgages.

I just don't understand the luxary tiny truck I suppose.
now I notice "tiny".

The luxury F-150 is kind of the go-to for someone who wants an actual cadillac, and not a GM parts bin car with extra leather. It still, though. needs a ride setting of "1960 Cadillac Fleetwood." (which is neither like a couch nor a cloud, but rather sitting on a couch which rests on a cloud . . .) ["We don't need no steenkin' 'ground feel'!"]

Lariat: We had fog and mist for a couple of days. It was the first time I turned on the heaters for my side mirrors. Cleared away the mist on the mirrors in a minute.

And you got power side mirrors and a larger spare tire in the package. Although I now have a Lariat and am very satisfied with it, sometimes I wish Ford had built the '23 XL I initially ordered as I'm inherently thrifty.

That’s easy !
This Lariat owner knows life is short and you can’t take it with you when you die.
And at my age I’m not wasting time on do overs.

True! You should have bought a stang though, imagine the fun you could have there!

Had a Stang, a 2010 model
I was a ‘Cuda’ and Camaro kid back in the day.
Three of each. I dearly miss each one.
I did a General Lee jump in my 69 Cuda, He didn’t make it.

Then I discovered Dirt bikes and Crotch Rockets.
