Has anyone removed the keyless start chip from their remote and put it into a new housing? I couldn’t find anything in a quick forum search.

I carry the key fob around every day but I never use it - I always use the touch locks on the handles.

Considering that I’m looking to take the chip for the starter / doors out, even with a new housing it would probably be 25% of the current key size.

The chip while is required is not the part that transmits a signal to the vehicle to unlock or start. If your fob goes completely dead - waterlogged, damaged - you can take the fob and place it in the center console after removing the rubber in the bottom. After removing that you will see a recess in the bottom to place the fob for emergency starting. All that to say having just the chip wont help you.
