When you take delivery of your truck there will be a small key code tag provided by the dealership. With that code, a replacement key/fob can be obtained.

I do not yet have my maverick, so I am uncertain about all of this. The manual seems to say that a key left in the vehicle when it is locked becomes disabled and will not permit you to start the vehicle when you get in without pressing the "unlock" symbol. If that is the case, I could not "hide" the key and forget about it. I would have to hit the "unlock" symbol to make the push start button functional. Is this how you understand it??Unless you deactivate the smart key function the doors will not lock with a keyfob in the vehicle.

It's been a long time since I read the manual for the Maverick, I was just thinking of how the push button start vehicles I have/had owned all worked. If you disable the smart key, which as you point out from the manual happens if you lock it in with the keypad, then yes you would need to use the fob anyway. The keypad sounds far more useful for people who don't have Lariat, and thus lacking the smartkey.I do not yet have my maverick, so I am uncertain about all of this. If a person cannot leave the key in the vehicle, I really do not understand the utility of the keypad because with the fob in your pocket, you will never have to take the key out of your pocket to gain entry and start the vehicle via push button starter. Is there another advantage I am missing??
Thanks! I am guessing I can leave the smart key in the vehicle and then lock the vehicle with the exterior keypad. When I return, I can use the keypad to enter the vehicle and then use the key I left in the vehicle to enable the push button start by hitting the unlock symbol on the fob. If that is the case, it does save me from carrying the key around while I am out doing something. It's been a long time since I read the manual for the Maverick, I was just thinking of how the push button start vehicles I have/had owned all worked. I just went out and tested this because I was curious. On my Lariat Lux, I left the key in the console, got out and locked the door with the keypad. The door will not open from the outside as expected. Thanks! I am guessing I can leave the smart key in the vehicle and then lock the vehicle with the exterior keypad. It really does appear much more beneficial to owners without the smart key.
If any Lariat owners are out there have had experience with this, have any input, it would be appreciated..... especially if my thinking is faulty.
I have the same 2" x 1" tag with barcode and 5 digit number. Have you confirmed this is the key code? Thanks. What does the key code look like? The keys I got have a tag with a barcode and a 5 digit number on it.
No sir, still clueless on what the key code is or where to find it.I have the same 2" x 1" tag with barcode and 5 digit number. Have you confirmed this is the key code? Thanks.
Thank you for you trial. It does make it pretty easy to steal but, at minimum, I have no fear of leaving it locked with the key inside in some situations such as the very busy supermarket parking lot or, for sure, in my garage. I suspect a real pro will figure out a way to enter and start the vehicle anyway after it has been on the market awhile. And he will enter without breaking a window. The way some of these wizards (at least to me) are changing all kinds of options with forescan, they can probably start it without the key if they experiment a littleI just went out and tested this because I was curious. On my Lariat Lux, I left the key in the console, got out and locked the door with the keypad. The door will not open from the outside as expected.
I then entered the code to unlock the door got inside and pushed start without ever removing the key from the console, and the vehicle starts. So you do not need to retrieve the key and unlock it to use the Push to start.
Edit: This may be a no-go. I had another thought and rolled my window down. Left the key in the console then locked it from the outside.
Still couldn't open the door but was able to reach inside and push start and it said press the brake so I used a broomstick to press the brake, and pushed start and the truck started and said ready to drive.
So it seems if someone just broke your window and climbed in, they could steal your truck easily with the key in it.
Did anybody NOT get one? I don't think I've ever bought a new vehicle that didn't include that tag.How many new Maverick owners got a key code tag when they took delivery of their truck so the key can be replaced if necessary ? The key code will be needed to cut a new key.
You absolutely CAN leave your fob/transmitter in the truck, and then lock and unlock the driver's door with the keypad. We do it.Thanks!
