Red flag #1 jeep pulls out with traffic barreling down

Flag #2 the jeep straddles the lane the entire time.

If those two flags don't trigger you to ease off the gas and be cautionary then the fact your alive is a act of God.

You can contextualize the last 3 seconds and say nothing could be done, sure fine. But had the OP taken the mindset to be defensive here, they would be driving around in there maverick today.

And yea I don't try to pass cars going 30+mph than them on a two lane road.
There were plenty of places to turn right off that highway and some within a close distance. It would be reasonable to assume that driver was about to make a right turn off the road. What is not reasonable is that they would slowly amble into the left lane while blocking both lanes of a highway to make an illegal U-Turn.

I am stating the point in time when the driver should have been alerted was 3 seconds to impact. Prior to that there was nothing that would make you think you are headed for an accident.

Cell phones accidentally break all day every day.

If I was OP and insurers/investigators/lawyers began asking for video that showed me driving WAY over the speed limit.....

I think my phone would tragically break and be unavailable to share that footage;)
Are you prepared to lie under oath if necessary?

Never.

However, sometimes by happenstance the timing of accidents can end up being fortuitous. No?

Some of ya'll still thinking this was about the jeep driver. Imagine that the jeep driver cannot be reasoned with - cannot be predicted. It is a flesh sack powered by electrons and baja blast.

So we immediately assume - we have no clue what that thing is going to do.

  • Correct mindset: I dont know what this driver will do - and thats ok Ill assume it will do something wrong. Ill become very cautious now, and then reduce that caution as I gain more control over the scenario.

  • Wrong mindset: I think i know what that driver will do and not apply caution until I need to.

Now the correct mindset will have you initially back off, create enough space, and only when you have enough control over the scenario do you pass.

The wrong mindset will have you continually trust this meat sock with a cheesy gordita in its tummy and then at the last moment realize it didnt think the way you thought it would.

Again, the point: that thing doesnt think like you, and you dont know what its going to do - so treat it as such.

  1. Some of you: concerned with who is at fault for messing up

  2. Others: see a very avoidable scenario

When you put trust in anothers abilities - sometimes you're right, and sometimes you're surprised.

When you trust no one - you're often wrong, but never surprised.

Is it worth arguing whos at fault - or is it better to avoid altogether. whoever that jeep driver is - I dont want to meet them - but you did.

5 seconds can save 5 hours.

can you avoid every scenario? nuuupe. you'll still get bumped at a stoplight from time to time - but the rest of it, the part you have control over - ive got better things to do than talk to other drivers and cops and wait for tow trucks.

Yeah......no. How you are able to think that nothing was there to raise alertness and begin slowing down is beyond me. That jeep was a immediate redflag regardless of what you want to assume. On top of that, you shouldn't assume anything but the worst.

Funny enough I just showed this too a friend and his first reaction was: "why didn't he slow down when the Jeep pulled out?"

I cannot heart and Laugh react to your post enough.

but this is S tier advice right here.

The Jeep was in the wrong for changing lanes last minute at nearly a stop/crawl with a truck passing it at speed limit.

Everyone who says the driver should have slammed the brakes on and anticipated the girl’s last minute change are trolls.
