I was on the process of wiring my dashcam towards the passenger fuse box when I saw this:
Ford Maverick Is this normal? IMG_3757

Too many wiretaps. I’m not versed with car wirings so I have no idea what this is.

I got my car from the dealer off the lot. It came with a dealer installed Karr Security System which I still haven’t been able to remove yet. They disabled it before I signed the papers as I wouldn’t pay anything more than MSRP.

Any ideas why so many wire taps? And what could that be?

Thanks.

No way to tell for sure from the picture, but your suspicion of being an add-on alarm is probably a good guess. If it were me, I'd trace that stuff out and remove it all. Looks like one wire was cut, which can be spliced back together, and the wire taps removed and some liquid electrical tape on them - or if concerned the wires may be damaged, cut and splice them. Hate that stuff. Dealer added one of those 3rd brake light flasher things on to mine, and I removed it -- they also cut and used wire taps and didn't even replace the wire loom. Fortunately I used it as an opportunity to change to an F150 LED 3rd brake light by splicing the wires back together and protecting them with heat shrink and then wire loom on top so it looks factory. I always recommend going the extra mile with heat shrink protection even when inside for wire repairs - it never hurts.

This process is new for me so I’m quite unsure how I would start this. I’ll probably start with the taps and see.

I’ll make sure to do that, thanks!

You'll need a couple special tools to strip the wires and do a nice crimp, but it's not difficult. I strongly recommend not getting the cheapest stuff available, and going somewhere in the middle. YouTube is probably a good source for how-to's or you can ask here and get your questions answered as well (I'd be happy to help).

Check out the "cut" wire and find out if it was for the dealer add on or they cut it to disable the add on or something "Ford" that they didn't want???

I'm not familiar specifically with the Mavericks under hood wiring but that doesn't look factory to me. It would at least be shrink-wrapped for weather proofing they look like the kind you would grab at home Depot and crimp on by hand. I can't imagine Ford factory manufacturing is like that these days

They seemed to hijack that wire to add theirs along with the other wires. I still have yet to trace these wires.

Yeah, that’s what I was thinking. I thought why are these wires so messy which caught me to think that this might be the dealership add-on that they disabled before handing the car to me.

I saw a video of one Maverick and it definitely didn’t look like mine.

Thank you so much! This will really help.
Since the salesman can unlock and start the car, I would assume that the lender the dealer placed your loan with can notify the dealership to send a driver out to wherever GPS reports the location and the driver can unlock, start and drive off. Or send the vin number to any repo (insert desired pronoun)!

I’m not sure whatever power they can do on my car. As far as the “Karr Security System” goes, it’s not turned on. I made sure to check if it was (turned off) before I installed the Ford Security Perimeter Plus.

hopefully that is not the case for me.

Yes you will be ok from karr. But like us all subject to key fob hacking, etc, etc, etc. As far as repo guys they can buy modified large pickups with 4 wheel off the ground retrievers that can extract vehicles out of a parking lot with cars parked on both sides faster that a driver can get in, start, and back out. I don't think my dealer installed anything on mine. At least he did not try to sell me one. I bought the 8/100 all in warranty on my lariat hybrid first edition which I plan to keep. I did not on my hybrid XLT LUX planning on trading in on new one at 3/36 warranty expiration. So maybe a 2026 if they can deliver in Sept 2025? I will want a plug in hybrid AWD and may wait for one.
