LOL, same in Kansas! I tried to transfer the plate from my convertible, and was told I couldn't, and had to pay more money. : I even asked, "Even for just a LITTLE TRUCK?!" Yes, I had to pay more.

Oddly, with a 2-DoorJeep in the past, they were able to register it as a "car" not a "truck" if I told them I wasn't going to pull a trailer with it. That apparently doesn't work with Pickups, and/or the person at the DMV was being more or less helpful then.

Here in Ontario they switched it up a couple of years ago. Used to be able to get blue personal car plates on anything up to 3/4 tons, for non business use, but then they changed it so everything "truckish" gets a black truck plate, so my Mav wears a truck plate. I don't know how it plays out with Connect Wagon vs Panel and minivans vs panel versions.
