What is this? It's on the part of the frame the lower control arms are connected to. I discovered it taking off the shield to do the first oil change. It looks like they dragged these frame pieces through dirt then painted them.

I would say that is probably weld splatter. Knock a chunk off and see if there is bare metal underneath. Then try to crush the spec you took off. If it crushes easily it is dirt. If it's hard it is metal from the machine welding process.

I tried that by hand and could not. It is entirely across this frame piece on both sides

Separately: anyone know where I record a diy oil change for the warranty?

You would probably need a small chisel and hammer to knock a piece off. Or, just try grinding it off. Or use a file on a bit, see what is under the paint on those bumps.

Agreed, you can see the welds.

DIY oil change = keep the receipt for the filter and oil in your Mav file, write the mileage on it. Since most receipts are thermal printed, they tend to fade. I make a photocopy then tape the actual receipt to it. Make sure the date is clearly visible. You can also put a piece of cellophane [aka Scotch tape] tape over the date and product description and that will protect it.

There's a way in Ford Pass, under your vehicle, to enter service records yourself, including cost and a receipt image if you want. I've done it many times for my current ride, plan to continue for routine things in the Mav.

Jeez. Take to the dealer when think the oil has expired. This is about a mechanical device.

Doing oil at home is similar to washing it at home.
Not everyone trusts dealer techs.

Yes it is and I trust myself more than an apprentice (if that). Also it's cheaper and I know exactly what comes in and out.

Anyway thanks for the look over guys if it's weld splatter that's cool. Meanwhile I'm discovering just how weak the paint is as everyone has said. I can't believe how many bare metal spots there are.
