I believe the original poster (me) after making an observation, was just ASKING if it was by design or not. Take a chill pill dude. It'll be alright... alright.
I believe the OP (you) said this "Is this an intended design detail or design flaw?" Not sure why your mind would even go there. Only a Ford insider could answer your question and not likely to happen. If this doesn't detract from driving experience or functionality- who cares. Cadillac problems abound.

yes, always. This place is filled with observations from new owners making some kind of discovery on their vehicle and posting here concerned it is a big problem- and all sorts of other posters pile on making a big issue out of what usually turns out ot be a minor assembly error or deliberate design feature- NOT a design defect or flaw. These vehicles have thousands of hours refining design and verifying it tracks from concept to production through months or even years of real world testing with mules to meet internal and external standards. That still may not match a customer's expectations or wishes, but doesn't mean there's anything wrong with the design.
FYI....I may be mistaken but I believe Ford Guy said splash guards are now a "significant" constraint at this time. After purchase installation is no big deal.

good to know. They were when I ordered (also SIBL) and I added them on purpose because I wanted to delay my build for extra time to complete repairs and sell my extra house to pay for the Maverick without a loan  Last week I was at my dealer for an update on VVR and they told me I could drop a couple things and get it scheduled faster like another 1 that just got built. I said no, not in a big hurry to get it. Might change my mind during Summer after the house is gone...
