If there was any doubt before... 4 bicycles hung on tailgate

It's probably better to watch a youtube video of how tailgate covers look and work. But normally the tailgate cover is more narrow than the actual tailgate, so the cover does not impede the tailgate from latching closed. However, the maverick's bed is narrow and the 52" cover is exactly the width of the tailgate. So in this case yes, the flap on the backside does get in the way of the latch. I had to lift the fabric up as I closed the gate for it to latch.

I know tailgates are meant to be used but I don't trust Ford here one bit. My hitch rack stays on my vehicle once the snow ends and riding season begins but even if it didn't. It weighs 40lbs and takes about 2 minutes to put on. Not only does it better protect my bikes (which a few are expensive) I know I won't be stressing the tailgate.

I just don't trust ford. Especially when the cables come from the factory uneven and the tailgate already doesn't sit level with the bed....

52 inches is almost exactly the inside width of the bed. I had to lift up the inside edges of cover so the tail gate would latch. But once it latches it seems perfectly sized.

What?! I bought it 2 days ago for $69.99. It's now $50.99 after you apply the coupon.
