HYbrids will be obsolete soon, Technology is coming fast, new battery technology which is already in use, and the radial motors Vs, Axial design, and now playing with Magnetless motors, ceramic wheel bearings, add some solar panels and you have quite an EV.

People just cant get over buying fuel, even at $5g. Look how far along is Aptera is. They are just a start up now.

Regarding solar panels:

Sunlight, best case scenario, = 1 horsepower per square meter.

Solar on the vehicle is not really possible. Not in any practical sense.

Sunlight, by nature, is not very powerful. Not very densely packed energy.

You need a home sized or parking lot sized solar array to recharge a battery or super-capacitor that holds more densely packed energy.

Unless you think 1 horsepower per car will become a thing.



Aptera started in 2006.

In 20 years of development; how many vehicles have been made?

Answer: Zero production vehicles on the road from Aptera.

Worse than Musk at meeting production dates.

First promised production date was in 2008.

Second was "we'll produce in 2009".
They had 4,000 deposits from customers at the time.

Failed to get any loans.
Refunded customers in 2011.
Went bankrupt.
Company was liquidated in December, 2011.

April 2012 a Chinese automaker bought the Aptera intellectual property.
Promised to set up one assembly plant in China and one in California in 2013.
Promised to make 5000 vehicles that year that never materialized.

June 2013 company split into two companies. One would make an all electric Aptera. One would make a highly efficient gasoline Aptera.
Promised cars in 2014.

2014 to 2019 nothing happened.
Company(s) were mainly silent.

2019 relaunch / rebranded.
Used crowdfunding to gather funds.
By end of 2019 company stated it had over 3000 paid reservations.
Cars to be $26k to $47k depending on options.

$40k mid range model to be produced solely first production year, scheduled for 2023. Then 2024. Then 2025.

Now projects production will start no earlier than March, 2027. Possibly 2028.

A hybrid gets -4% to ~8% of it's juice (which I assume you mean fuel efficiency) from regenerative braking.

There is no right anwer. It is highly dependent on terrain and driver.

A Maverick in an area with lots of short, not too steep hill could recoup a lot of the ICE's power, assuming the driver understands how to take advantage of it. I live in CT which has a good bit of this. On a state highway with lots of gentle rolling hills, I can get well above 50mpg. On a flat interstate, all that regenerative stuff is just extra weight. I might crack 40 mpg, if I drive slowly enough.

Way back in 1976 that years Honda Civic/CVCC got 54 mpg on the highway and
44 in city traffic with the A/C on.

We have not really moved forward. Just sideways.
Got real good at bullshitting the American consumer.

I remember my sisters CVCC had a manual choke.
When the Echo Prius came out, the mpg was crazy. Crazy enough for Toyota to dump the hybrid Echo and create a reduced mpg model that took the Prius name.

I wonder if range extended will replace hybrid. In theory is simplistic in design. Drive train is all electric all the time, engine is just a generator for the battery.

It would have to be a plug in so I could leave the house with peaked drive batteries.
I’d buy that, maybe.

It would be weird at first.

That is how the hybrid is. I turn it on and the engine is silent because it’s only electric for a bit
