I think my dealer is pulling a scam, maybe. Please help.

UPDATE: It was just a coincidence and my truck is in production. Thank you to everyone who helped on this thread!

I'm starting to get very nervous that my dealer is pulling some sort of scam on me. What do you guys think? what should I do? Who would be the right person at Ford to reach out to?

The Order:
I ordered a stripped out basic XL with a few specific options (2.0, AWD, Inverter, Floor-mats w/o carpets, full size spare) and nothing else on 6/25.

The red flags:
  1. I never got an email directly from ford. When I asked about it the dealer forwarded an email they had saying it was confirmed, but I've never gotten anything directly.
  2. Last week they told me my truck was in production this week, when I asked them for the VIN number (since trucks in production have VIN numbers is my understanding) they said they couldn't give it to me until I had paid for it.
  3. The exact truck I ordered (minus the full size spare) is currently in transit to the dealership: https://www.lhmford.com/new/3FTTW8F99NRA01462.htm
  4. When I asked if that was my truck I got back a two word email "Not Yours"

I find it odd that two people would order the exact same stripped out basic truck in the same color and both add the inverter!!! But I don't know who to reach out to.

Sorry, but Ford isn’t going to do anything for you…. Did you give them a photo copy of your drivers license and/or a deposit??? Did the dealership give you a copy of the DORA???

Sounds to me like they may have done your order as a stock order instead of a retail order. Were you provided with a DORA? Did you sign anything?

Agreed, the DORA would provide you with the info to call Ford to ensure the status of your order. If you call, they're just going to ask for that info.

Hopefully you have some paperwork from the dealer. You need the Order # from the dealer. It is a dealer assigned 4 digit alpha/numeric code. If you don't have it, call the dealer and ask for the Order #.
Call Ford at (800) 334-4375. Give them your order number and dealer name/location.
They will confirm your order. Give them your email and contact info.
They will tell you the current status of your truck (Confirmed, Scheduled, Built, or Shipped).
If it has moved to production, they can give you the VIN #.

Sounds like they are using your order as a stock allocation for them. Did they make a copy of your driver license and enter your email, and submit the order through ROVP to Ford. It seems that XL orders with 2.0 are being scheduled. I would call FORD with order number at 800-334-4375 or 800-392-3673 to confirm retail order.

Call FORD directly, use the info from the VIN, and asked them if your info is attached to that build. You know your order date, and hopefully with the above INFO, FORD can help. I would also request the expected delivery date.

IF this is your build, request to speak with the Sales Manager or his boss and share your findings with them BEFORE the truck is delivered.

Hopefully, this is a misunderstanding.

If you didn't get a copy of the order from the dealer, didn't leave a deposit, didn't get an email from Ford, then it doesn't look like you actually ordered a truck. Sounds like the dealer used your name to get the truck ordered, but planned to keep it for themselves the whole time. That sucks

Thanks everyone who has responded.

To clarify:
  • I did sign forms
  • pay a deposit
  • give them my driver's license
  • I have a 4 digit "Order Code"
  • I do not have a DORA
I'll call for and see if with just the order code and date if they can help me!!!

the one you posted a link to has the 4K towing option also so I really doubt it’s your truck….

... it is different than the one on the dealers website. So the answer is no scam happening. Just bad customer support (eg I'm not getting the emails from Ford, my dealer is answering my concerns with two word emails, etc).

Thank you all for letting me know the right number to call and that I could use the sales code and order code in place of the DORA. It all went well with ford on the phone.

the one you posted a link to has the 4K towing option also so I really doubt it’s your truck….
I forgot to say that I ordered that too. I called ford. It is all just a crazy coincidence as this is a different truck (with the same options)
