Picking up my Maverick on Thursday 10/20…got everything squared away with finance today and let them know when to send the shuttle my way at the airport. Pumped! My wife isn’t able to come along due to work obligations, so I’ll be driving straight back to Tennessee as long as I’m feeling nice and awake.

I'm sorry to hear your health derailed your Maverick plans. Prayers for healing, comfort, and amazing quality of life as you face these hurdles.
@FGG
Thanks for the kind words and good thoughts. We will keep swinging for the fence and enjoying everything I can. Perhaps I will catch a ride in a new Maverick as my original Maverick is still a car…….😇
All the best with your plans…… ✔🇺🇸

I was under the impression before I talked to finance that you couldn't combine the special financing with your Farm Bureau discount, but I went with 60 months at 1.9% and they still took off the $500 for Farm Bureau so I chalk that up as a win. 0% at 36 would have been great, but we typically try to keep the payment a little lower and make overpayments twice a month so we have a little more flexibility for the inevitable time when our house gobbles up a few thousand dollars unexpectedly, as houses will do 😆

Got everything squared up w Cassandra in finance. Picked out the extended warranty with the options I wanted. With the recall still looming, Texas paperwork cannot be done on this. So I'm on hold for now.

Took the farm Bureau rebate, and 1.9% for 36 months. I dont quite have the entire amount to just pay cash. I'm short about $5K. The min ford will finance is $10k, so first payment i send out of the payment book will be a check for $5K. The remainder I will have before january with some overtime.

Heres how I was able to do this, and still live my life, I have been saving for this as a replacement vehicle after I payed my current DD off. My current daily driver I purchased new 15 years ago, so this car replacement account has been building for quite some time, since i was already used to putting that amount aside for a payment.

If yall want to know, it equals putting away just $208 per month for 8 years lol. I could have set more aside if I wanted, but this was an easy pace, and I keep my daily drivers a long time. As a mechanic by trade I tend to maintain my stuff pretty well.

How do you eat a whole elephant? One bite at a time. If you keep your vehicle long enough to pay it off, and maintain it well, once its payed for, just keep putting the money aside as if the payment is still there. My current daily, I will fix a few things, and keep it as a spare vehicle. I dropped full coverage off it when it reached 10 years old, and that helped as well..

Taking the $500 off and stretching my payments out for 36 months at 1.9% ends up costing me around $731 in interest so i will not save anything this way. There is no early pay off penalty so I'm going to get rid of it asap.

Always interesting to hear how folks stay lean and mean financially. I kind of stand by the credence that if you pick up enough pennies, you'll have a dollar. I like the eating the elephant analogy too. Thanks for the share!

Thanks for sharing your experience with us. It's good for younger readers to see how many of us have learned to save up for things and avoid instantly gratifying ourselves. Debt takes away freedom of choice; your kind of paying for past sins. Meanwhile, saving for something and having a good sum of cash in hand, gives you options.

I prefere to finance a vehicle for no more than 24 months (ok, that's not true...sometimes the minimum allowed by a bank/credit union is 36 months, but I always pay them off before 24)..

Yes, it is 0% and I do qualify for that with a 815 credit score, however you cannot apply that 0% with the farm Bureau $500 cash deal. The farm bureau deal , ford will not let you take 0%. So I had to do 1.9%

BTW, my grandfather was a banker. He taught me all the tricks in regards to how loans and mortgages work. Thats how I took a 30 year mortgage and payed it off in 10 years, and never ever ran a car loan out the full length of time.

He also stated that
"life was like a $hit sandwich. The more bread you have, the less $hit you will have to eat"

He never bought brand new cars either. That's the only place I differ. As a mechanic, I want it new from day one, only because I will spend the extra on quality filters, synthetic oil, and an enhanced mtx program. This allows me to run a vehicle a very long time. My 94 silverado I bought new is still with me 28 years later. Original drivetrain and original clutch.

I used ole Betsy 2 days ago to pick up a Chrysler engine block from the machine shop. To me vehicle year age is only a number. Betsy will not get sold because of the new truck. On the contrary, they actually compliment one another. My maverick will be a daily driver, and use for small pickup stuff. My 94 will be used for the big pickup stuff.

Heck my wifes 2013 Grand Caravan has 168K on the odometer. Vehicle is in perfect shape, but front wheel bearings are starting to growl. I will be changing out front wheel bearings/hubs on it next week. When it hits 200K it will go away. She wants a Mazda CX30. And by God she should get to have one in whatever color and options she picks. We have a savings going for the vans eventual replacement, along with whatever its trade value in is, or we may just sell it on our own.

I have a 2008 chevy HHR "Lucky" this is soon to be my previous every day daily driver. But between Betsy, Lucky, and the Mav that I am going to call the "Silver Buffalo" I have 3 different vehicles to choose from to go to work. Betsy and Lucky are long payed off, and only cost me $400 a year total in liability insurance. Why sell them. Betsy the 94 Silverado is definitely worth waaay more. People still love these GMT400s. No rust, no dents, clean inside. People are now restoring them. Mine doesnt need very much. Lucky is worth maybe $1000 on a good day. He is worth more to me as transportation. On a bad weather day, Lucky is the vehicle of choice.

Thanks 4 the kudos. My wife says copper wire was Invented by me and an equally thrifty friend of mine fighting over a penny lol. Point is theres a lot of ways of saving money and still be able to have nice things.

Yup the dreaded ramp 6P if it sits too long a black hole opens up and its transported to a different universe, or possibly a rental fleet, or to Brazil.

Thank you for the kind words and prospects of seeing your journey via posts. Unfortunately the doc has put an expiration date on my time here. I have had an excellent run and pray that all this is some time way in the future.. Live each day to the fullest and everything else will fall in place.
Be well -
Have fun and enjoy the ride ahead…..
I look forward to keeping an eye on your journey.
Thanks again ✔🇺🇸
Sad to hear that. I didnt catch what you got there. But a story of hope. My mom was diagnosed in 91 with multiple myeloma and they gave here 6 months. She made it till 99. Saw my sister graduate. My wife diagnosed with stage 3 breast cancer 6 months before our wedding. 3 years later she is about 80% as tough as she ever was, which is about 1.5 the strength of most dudes I know. With every struggle there is a opportunity to "show em up" at the least. Good luck!

I would imagine the 3k off may limit what other discounts they’ll apply for you. May just be something where the dealership decides what they are able to offer?

It shouldn't, unless there's an obligation to finance through them that I'm missing. Better for them to get you the Ford Credit low interest loan than to have you pay cash. That and incentives (like the $500 FB) are rebates from Ford, not the dealer's pocket.
