This is the first vehicle I've owned with a touch screen. While size seems ok, why isn't screen integrated into the dash rather than added on? From a drivers perspective, what is the little "pocket" to right of the screen good for? With that being said, what about the little 'bowl' behind the screen?

Do the up-level trims have a different size screen and dash configuration?

Lariat trim has the same screen size and configurations.

I bet you'll see Ford respond with an 11 inch screen in the next gen Maverick.

Chevy has started the screen war and although they don't have a Maverick competitor the new Colorado has a standard 11 inch screen plus a large digital gauge cluster.

The interior will see the largest change in the Maverick for next generation.

All trim levels have the same size screen and dash configuration. I believe the only notable difference is that the Lariat trim comes with Fords older Sync 3 infotainment software.

They originally had thought about putting in Sync 4 with a 10"-11" screen but dropped it for cost reasons. That's the extra room to the right. The tray is on many cars - for coins, glasses, etc.

The cubby to the right of the display is probably just a space-filler. I suspect Ford originally planned for a larger screen and had to down-size due to supply constraints. I use that space to hold salt and pepper packets...

The tray behind the screen is useful for many things: sunglasses, gum, etc. But I use mine to hold packets of Splenda for when the drive-through folks forget to add it to the coffee I ordered... Still plenty of room for my wife's sunglasses as well.
