Photo evidence of the hybrid doing farm truck things. The husband took the Mav and sent me this photo other than that she’s usually getting groceries or at the rink. Handled her first Canadian winter and -40C road trip for a hockey game great! Only thing is that the defrost on auto at -15c and lower is underpowered when the electric motor kicks in on stop/starts and it fogs up quickly, learned to keep it on full defrost and not auto on those days.

It is good to hear from a happy Hybrid farmer! I can't imagine how cold it gets in Alberta. It is good to see that you can work in the snow without AWD.

I think the Maverick Hybrid is a great addition for almost any farm family. We live miles from anywhere and we always need to stop off at Tractor Supply for a few hundred pounds of something. Getting great MPG is a huge bonus. Thank heaven that Ford built us this technological marvel at a price that I can actually afford.

We use our Hybrid, Sparky, to feed 50 head of cattle and other livestock every day. This past week we got 7" of rain over 4 days, which gave me an excellent opportunity to test the optional Ford splash guards. I am pleased to report that they functioned well, with very little mud actually making it all the way to the roof of the cab. Did not get stuck, but only because I turned off traction control.

I love seeing the maverick in action, doing work! I love every chance I get in the city to load up furniture, mulch, appliances, etc with my maverick. It is the Swiss Army knife of car/truck world. It’s not the best at any one job but it can do 90% pretty darn well.

Larry! Your truck is DIRTY!!! I have always admired farmers; you are a different breed. Not to mention NORTHERN farmers! My first night at Great Lakes boot camp it was 20-below, with 60-mph winds. How the hell anybody could live there, much less FARM there, is beyond me. I made a deal with Chicago that very night: if Chicago would never come to me, I would never return to Chicago. I am 81 now, and we have both lived up to our bargain. But, I digress.

I am glad that the small 5' bed is sufficient for farm duties. One question: Do you have to keep some kind of heater on the engine overnight so that it will start in the morning? What part of the engine/motor do you heat?

Amos, that's a great question! I can't answer it since I live in almost tropical Virginia. Hopefully the OP will chime in.

Oh yes a good set of winter tires can get you a lot of places! We’ve got about 75 cows set to calve next month The truck bed was something my old minivan lacked for picking up feed. Love how is fits perfectly into light farm work, exactly what I was after when we were vehicle shopping.

All new vehicles need to come with a block heater added here in Canada. Ours has a block heater installed, but I don’t need to plug it in as I park in a heated shop (lucky me!)

 

[The Real Maverick]

The OEM block heater needs to be a factory installed option. It's one of those things that goes in before the engine goes into the truck. It is practically impossible to add later. No access to add it after delivery.

So if not factory installed, you'll need to go with a plan "B" but there are other things you can do.

MAX HEAT or COOL will keep ice running.
