It took me a couple weeks, but I finally managed to nearly empty my first tank of gas. Hand-calculated 34 mpg, mostly city-ish...suburban....driving. This was in spite of me forgetting to switch to ECO 90% of the time (Why can't the Mav stay in the last drive mode?), excessive running of the ICE to keep the car warm (Chicagoland has been in the single digit temperatures lately), and a few trips in Sport mode to test out how much "pep" there could possibly be in a Hybrid (pleasantly surprised).
All-in-all, I'm EXTREMELY happy with the number. My previous vehicle, a Kia Soul, was only averaging 27-28 mpg....so 34 is ALREADY a 25% upgrade. I'm axiously awaiting some warmer weather so I can bump the number up even higher. I think I've learned a bit from the "Brake Coach" and it will only get better as I learn the best way to drive a hybrid. GREAT JOB, FORD! Now, get cracking on building the rest of the backlogged hybrid orders!

Yeah having the heater on does hurt the MPG a bit I noticed. Im getting on average 38-40 MPG here because of that.

Using the heater in ARIZONA???????? I thought it was always 125 degrees there? 😂 Any word on if the A/C will cause a similar drop in mileage?

There is a learning curve on how to get the mpg on the mav once you figure out how to keeep it on battery mode you can get above 40. My friend is getting 42 average he’s in Chicago also, I’m in tx here’s what I average on a tank full

Its kinda a pain to keep it in electric all the time, you have to get it up to speed then try to "coast" it. Just barely touch the gas. if you move it more than like a milimeter the ICE turns on. If you have the heater too high, the ICE turns on.

Damn, 2 miles to empty! You really wanted to hit 600 miles on a tank!

EXACTLY what I thought! My other cars have always switched to "--- miles left" once I got under 30.

The point is that the mav is a fantastic truck if you change your driving style it will reward you big time Or just drive it normal you still get 35-40 is really up to the driver

Phoenix today has a high of 70ºF and a low of 42ºF.
Flagstaff is 45ºF down to 21ºF.

That's definitely cold enough for heat, even in Phoenix at night/early morning.

I'd love to hear from someone in Maine experiencing the -20 degree cold right now. The ICE would probably be running nonstop to keep the heat going.

I've driven in some -10f and -15f temps here in MN the last couple weeks. It takes a few minutes of running the ice, but I can usually get electric to kick in after a couple miles of driving. With a warm engine and the inside temp set to 60f I can get 40mpg on some trips, but overall getting low-mid 30s mpg. Not bad since I could usually expect my corrola to get about 25mpg during January in Minnesota

Check out weather in Flagstaff or Tucson. Gets chilly. Especially Flagstaff little NW altitude gets about 10,000 ft ski resorts up that way.
