How useful OR useless is the XLT Sync System

Xlt lux does not have sync 3. Andrpid auto uses the factory Bluetooth mic to use voice commands to control the connected phone. I can promise you, if the radio has android auto/applecarplay, you will have voice control.over navigation apps, music streaming apps, calls, and voice texting while the phone is connected via USB. It is the literal purpose of those two systems. I can promise you 100% that phone based voice commands work on any radio with Android Auto/apple carplay, as that is their whole purpose. XL, XLT, Lariat (lux packages or not) will have the same functionality via Android Auto or apple carplay. I promise you. I work at Crutchfield, this is quite literally one of my fields of professional expertise, I use and talk, and sell, and Install, and upgrade, and all things car infotainment upgrades everyday. To claim Android Auto will not do voice commands without sync3 (separate system) is literally misinformation and wrong.

If the system won't work with voice commands via AA or ACP while connected via USB, then it doesn't have AA or ACP, period. I doubt Ford would lie about having those systems, as google and apple would be PISSED.

Considering my current truck has an old school cd player and just am fm I dont think I will have much to complain about.......this XLT has options my King Ranch never heard of.....

My 2000 F-350 Crew Cab Super Duty 7.3L Diesel has an AM/FM Radio and a CD and cassette player. I'm going to miss those last two since I currently have almost 400 cassettes.

I'm happy as long as I can press a button on my steering wheel and get access to Android Assistant.

My 2017 subaru has built in voice commands and it's own "smart radio" and it is hot garbage compared to just long pressing the voice command button and talking to Assistant. The long press works via bluetooth too, so you can use it without plugging in. Plugging in is only if I want to use the screen. I still can text, call and get information via voice.

Once we get our hands on one to take it apart and get measurements and stuff we will have it in our database, yes! If they haven't gotten one by the time I get mine, we will do research on mine. With how popular this truck will end up being, I'm sure there will be a good bit of vehicle specific upgrades from various places. Obviously, I can't say anything for sure. What is it they say " I just work there!"

I still have the 8 track player for my house stereo system but don't have many tapes. Only issue with them was the switching tracks right in the middle of the songs. Quality was much better than the cassettes though.

Absolutely, I loved driving from Connecticut to Maine and putting on Eat a Peach by the Allman Brothers and that played a quarter of the 3 1/2 hour drive. Gas was 35 cents, we were young at the right time, well minus my Vietnam trip and the coming back to America but I look like Al Pacino so I made a lot of "Friends" so good times overall

The younger generation nowadays has no clue of the hatred endured upon return back into this country for protecting their butts so that they can enjoy what they have today - even to this day. Everyone should have to give at least 2 years of service and then maybe they will look at our flag for what it really is supposed to represent!

You can make phone calls with the phone connected wirelessly via bluetooth. You can also play music on say a USB drive without a phone connected. These are the two things I do most of the time. If I need navigation then I'll connect the phone.

It should work, I use an ipad mini through bluetooth for music/navigation/etc. Works great! I turn on the truck and within 20 seconds or so it connects to the bluetooth automatically and starts playing where it left off.
