How to Blackout Third Brake Light

The third brake light is a Federal manufacturing safety requirement and generally not an equipment requirement by any State's traffic laws. Not only can you get a ticket for it, your car will not pass a safety inspection with out it working,(if your state requires safety inspections)

Quick google search indicates you're wrong for VA, TX, PA. I didn't read some article about NC or any other states.

So, I’m assuming it’s not just as easy as the taillights? Can’t just take the third brake light off and dunk it in zepp? I figured the electrical components are more integrated in the housing, so I didn’t want to start unscrewing things, realize it, and then have to put it back together.

Yes, you should just unscrew the third brake light, remove the bulbs (like on the brake lights) and completely submerge in ZEP.

The electrical components aren't housed in the unit. It's just like the brake lights where the bulbs stick in and all the electrical components are on the outside. Nowhere near as tedious as ZEP'ing your headlights where you have to open the headlights.

I was able to zep all the brake lights in stages so as to leave the chrome reflectors. I posted a how to in the write-ups
