I HAVE LITERALLY WORKED DAYS ON THIS
Here I go again Sometimes the USB works and plays MP3 sometimes it doesn't it seems to have a mind of its own. I've given up I'm taking it into the dealer on the 15th so I can have consistent music playing from the USB
Here is my question
When the USB is not working what player do I put on my phone that syncs with the steering wheel controls? Do I have to be a premium member of Spotify Pandora YouTube just to play music that connects through the steering wheel on Ford sync??
I tried the VLC player but I have to basically run it from my phone I can't run it through the steering wheel
What's the deal??
THANK YOU!

Move the contents of your USB to your computer
Reformat the USB as FAT32 - full format, not quick format
(Fun Fact, you can name the USB drive MAVERICK and that will display in the truck)
Move the files back to the USB
Try it in the Maverick

If it doesn't work, find one of the bad songs/files and then take the usb drive back to the computer to verify the mp3 encoding details (VBR? what bitrate? etc.) That may tell you the issue with the MP3 file itself.

If that doesn't work, get a new USB drive.

Good luck!

For music stored on your phone, also try Musicolet or Rocket Player. Those both work with the steering wheel controls using bluetooth in my 2016 Subaru. The paid versions offer the most features.

BTW, major audio phone apps (Spotify/Pandora) will play through the Android Auto or Apple Car Play interface and the steering wheel controls will work to skip tracks etc. It does not have to be a premium account either. VLC may work if you add it to the list of Android Auto/Carplay apps (in the phone setup for Auto/Carplay). Note: These require you to have wired connection.

If you prefer not to keep the phone wired, I have found that Pandora works fine even when not wired (just bluetooth connection).
